Not sure where to post this so....
I run a BFBC2 SQDM server for my clan http://www.clanstfu.com (http://www.clanstfu.com) and I am wondering what others do to detect cheats. Are there any stratgies that you use?
We stream PB-Bans but as everyone knows this doesn't get everybody. Last night in our Rush server we had a guy who very quickly ran up a 60 - 5 score and he wasn't sniping either. How do you detect this? I don't want to ban someone just because he is really good but the cheaters ruin everything and soon he was driving off the players.
What does PB screens shots do and how do you use them?
Is there an Rcon tool that will prevent locked squads in Rush mode?

First off, PBSS don't work very well in BC2. (the problem lies both with PB and with BC2.)
There are unfortunately no good mechanisms for inspecting what a player is up to. (no way to take a screenshot of a player's screen, no way to spectate a player from either 1st person or 3rd person perspective, no way to record demos.)
Regarding locked squads - I haven't verified it, but I expect that a remote admin tool should be able to force a player into any team+squad where there are free slots.
There is no option to disable squad locking, because noone on the game team managed to think of a scenario where that would be useful enough (nor has there been a lot of requests for such an option).
If you are certain enough that the person was cheating, then you could look in the AdminLogs - the EA GUID of the player should be listed in there - and add a permanent GUID ban on your server.

Unfortunately, there isn't anyway to tell if someone hacks. I still play CoD:MW2 and there are way too many hackers there. It's easy to see through the killcam (and sometimes very very obvious) but there is nothing we can do about it.
Now I've been playing and admining FPS games for well over 10 years, and based on my experience, if you have a gut instinct that someone might be hacking, they probably are.. now of course this isn't the case 100% of the time. There are really good players, but in BC2, if someone is contantly going 50 and 5 for their Kill:Death ratio, I'd say something is up. Even the best player in my team can't do that all the time.
Bottom line, if we really think someone is hacking, I have no problem with banning them. If we can't rely on EA/PB/VAC/Etc. to do the job, then we really don't have a choice but to take care of it ourselves.. But even with that said, we haven't banned a lot of players. And the ones we do ban, if they come plead their case on our site, usually the ban gets removed.

I've noticed that some of the rcon tools are trying out algorithms to try to identify hackers. Just guessing but maybe they take into consideration factors such as:
* K/D ratio
* % of headshots
* direction of kills (e.g. if you kill someone at 90 degrees, then a half second later kill someone at 180 degrees then again at 60 degrees)
Of course spectate would address all these. :)

I just looked it up - Wolfcon does. Others might too. I mostly use procon and have not seen a plugin for this yet.
From the Wolfcon website:
Cheat Pattern detection - Picking out obvious aimbots and wall hacks by looking at their kill rate, kill angle spread accuracy and other factors.

I don't know how well it works.
