Hello guys and gals , so let me not waist your time , i run adsl. I will be building a monster computer to run as a server 3 gig, 4 slots of 512 memory etc. it will run cod only. 1- how many guys can play on this set up. 2- I play on a different comp. in my home same dsl signal as the server will bandw be split. 3- I would like to set up a 32 player game, can i do anything to aquire this with dsl or do i need to get a t-1 setup. anything external i can buy to help set it up, any suggestions, im trying to set it up so those young players don't have to worry about paying money just to play on a team and keep my cost down ,the old man, thanks again

1. The machine will be ok.
2. Don't think DSL will have enough bandwidth.
3. T-1 will do it I think but it's going to depend on the network backbone that your connected to.
4. How much is the T-1 going to cost, There are dedicated servers out there that cost between $99 to 200 bucks that will handle it. And have good network backbones.
Network backbone and bandwidth is the key.
Stay away from game server companies and go with web hosting companies they give better prices and better networks.
And your the only person on the box, game server companies put about 4 servers(clans) on one box. We have 4 servers on our box that we operate and we controll the whole box. That includes our 2 websites 2 Voice servers and 4 game servers.
These are just my opinions

First off, a T-1 isnt even enough bandwidth to run a nice 32-man server. However it really depends on the gametype. It'd probably run sd/re fine. HQ/TDM take alot more bandwidth due to the constant action.
I've seen my 30 man TDM spike to 4mbit outgoing. Granted I have a generous rate setting, but much lower and I start to see lag in battles.
Servermatrix is your best bet. I have a server with them and most anyone in the US gets <90ms pings. (They're located in Texas) I can't keep up with all the connections they are adding, but last I looked there were 12 gigabit links to 8-10 providers.
As for a server, you don't need a beast of a machine for a 32 man. Remember CoD is based on Q3, so it was designed to be run on much slower hardware (the server part is essentially the same, the actual game is much improved and requires a bit nicer machine)
I run a 30 man and a 20 man on a p4 2.8/1gig. Never see over 70% usage, averages 40% or so. A 1.4 server takes about 70mb of RAM so 512 is all thats really needed for what you're looking for.
As said by the previous poster, network connectivity is the key to a good gameserver. Its pretty much impossible to beat a SM machine for the price. A 1.5/1.5 DSL (equiv to a T1) will probably run you $300/mo. A p4 2.4/512 with 1000gb bandwidth is $99/mo or so at SM.

First off thank you both for giving me some info because i am new at the server aspect, back in delta force times we just set up a computer and run it as the server with dsl and 20 guys would play with no worrys, if im understanding you both it seems those days are gone just because my dsl bandw will not handle the load. so i have no other choice then to line someones pockets to put up a server worth anything 25 guys or more. i was hoping to run it from home no worrys no bills but my dsl and computer cost. o well, again thank you for your time and ideas.

i looked at 10.30 dst today and seen
4285 servers
7876 players
now that comes too 1.8 players per server
now ask your self is it worth paying 100 bucks or more
for a server at this time????????????????

You gotta take into account all the passworded servers, and consider that a WHOLE lot of those servers are people setting them up on their home connection.
I run a 1.1 and 1.4 tdm, both are full 18-24 hrs/day.
