Last night all XFire users revived this odd message

"Xfire was bought by new owners today. Most of the team that has built Xfire over the last six years is leaving. We enjoyed working for you for the last 127 releases and wish we could stay to create the next 127. Good bye, good luck, and game on. — The Xfire Team."

Wikipedia his this: On August 2 2010, Xfire was acquired by Titan Gaming (http://titanplatform.com/)

What all this means for XFire users and Windows gamers in general time will tell, but to have all of the software developers leave can't be good...

Well after clicking their website, the first I saw was "The ultimate game monetization platform". Sounds pretty awful if you ask me. I predict more and more aggressive ads in XFire, and I guess they'll sell all your personal data soon. Anyone who uses a real email address in XFire should prepare for some spam flood :p

I have been using XFire since MoH:BT sure feels a long time (Member Since 2004-09-19). There have been times when it was less useful than others, when we were playing Joint Operations for instance. But all of the time we were playing BF:2 it was invaluable. I'm signed up to a lot of different IM systems but XFire is the one with most contacts. It's so important to me that I run a Pidgin plugin called GFire when I'm in Linux to keep in contact.

I'm sure they'll **** it all up.

I'm all for making a buck in this world, but if XFire becomes commercialized in a way that I have to pay a single nickel or the software becomes intrusive, inconvenient, or departs from that long established user experience then I'll just uninstall it.

^^Looks like a group of hardcore gamers with the passion to improve and innovate XFire for the benefit of their users. $$$$

Bummer. For a long time I was hoping Stardock would buy them and combine Impulse with Xfire, but I had a hunch Google would get there first when they decided to break into games. This is far less appealing than either of those.

We will wait and see

Hopefully they won't mess anything up and start charging for the service.

I 've been using Xfire for years and was there when all the features were added/improved. It 's almost never good news when another company takes over something that 's doing good.

Why I prefer Xfire over Steam -> Xfire supports more games and has the ability to take screenshots/movies and upload them with just one click.

I remember All Seeing Eye, that was good till Yahoo got hold of it.Agreed, I only started using Xfire again when Yahoo killed The All Seeing Eye.

Lets just hope they don't screw up this wonderful, free tool.

I agree with this more than anything else. I use X-fire as a chat with friends from time to time but I never play a game with out it on. I keep the Frames Per Second in one corner of what ever game I'm playing and the time in the other corner. I get so tied up in a game that if I don't keep an eye on the time I'm hating life the next day at work. :hand:

Been long time member also on Xfire (joined 2005-01-27) - good service but lately i found the file transfer and multiples updates are getting in the way.... I'll stick with it for a while i guess as i have many contacts there. As long as its stay free....
