[VS-UK] are pleased to announce the opening of our new 48 player CoD server running Total War Mod 2.3a

Where.... can we get version 2.3a??

After dissecting our autoexec_mp.cfg file, checking and re-checking our rotation script and individually testing each map we have found...

This unfortunate conclusion: We are unable to run certain, superb maps under Total War;

1-Second Coming - Final
2-Varaville
3-Pergamon Museum

Additionally, we had to up the amount of ram designated via;

/set com_hunkmegs 256

from 128mb to 256mb just to have the maps that would run rotate reliably and load smoothly.

While I absolutely see the benefits of running Total War... going from 2.2a to 2.3 has been disappointing in as much as described above and an inadequate RCON facility.

As such, we are, at this time left with no choice but to fall back to either run TW 2.2a or not at all.

Hopefully Parts will see this and see if corrective measures can be taken. JB, please.... do so.

An Rcon util built-in that scans and shows all maps in the "main" folder, allows for rotating to be setup via rcon (ala- rcon4cod)... or, something similar. At this time, it doesn't show the new stalingrad map that came with the 1.4 patch either.

To be placed in a position to not be able to use TW hurts. Its a fine concept and if.... we run only the stock maps ok, custom maps such as those listed above (which are great) is a no go. A fully functional rcon is an absolute must. Especially when running custom maps and game types.

I sincerely hope we'll see fixes to TW 2.3 that'll allow for elaborate custom maps such as those listed above and a fully functional RCON.....

Indeed if such were to occur, Total War could easily be considered ready for commercial distribution. Especially considering the levels of support we've seen thus far. It would certainly be worth a purchase as far as we are concerned.

I anxiously look forward to these updates and fixes.

Thank you Parts, for listening and doing what you can.

-=ELG=- has had no problems with 2.3 running second coming or Varaville.
As for the Rcon, you can change items such as the maps and consoles messages. I do agree that a scanner for the maps on the server would be great or at least a scan of the rotation. But TW has been, as far as -=ELG=- is concerned to be THE Mod to have as it adds so much to the game without a client download till now and that is only for a few extra client menus and the medic scream. I personally love the parachuting into brecourt and bocage.

I'm overjoyed that -=ELG=- is able to run those maps..... howver, that doesn't help us or our server. We are running the server on a P4 2.8Ghz with 2gb DDR Ram.... I would think that's sufficient to handle the situation. 8-)

The scanning for maps would be wonderful. :!:

Amazingly, Merciless with the add-ons, (AWE etc..), runs all the maps effortlessly. Which gives me the impression there are certain memory overhead considerations in TW that need attention.

The main point of my message howver, was to point out that we're using TW 2.3 whereas they tell us of a newer version that's in use on their server..... or, maybe I read wrong. But if such is the case, I'd like to know the differences between 2.3 and 2.3a. :?

If we are to use and support this TW effort, the least that can happen is to see the users of TW being kept up to date. Seeing the "docs" appear as a teaser was quite annoying and now seeing a different version being used than we have only adds to the annoyance. I want to support TW, but this sort of thing is somewhat un-nerving as it smacks of "favoritism" or, at least appears that way to me. I certainly hope it isn't the case. If its to test 2.3a before its release, then a golden opportunity is being missed in not having a "variety" of machines and configurations testing right along with them. :!:

I read of a possibility of the best of Merciless and TW being combined. Now, that would be a powerhouse combo. The effects in Merciless and the goodies in TW... imagine the entertainment levels that'll be achieved.

Again, I agree the RCON facility in TW is good but could be great if... it scanned in ALL the maps in the main folder and allowed full management of such.

I guess 2.3a is not for public consumption...... :(

2.3a will be released today. I'm not sure if it will resolve the memory issues that some servers have. My problem is tha when I test it things work fine so it's difficult to diagnose.

It may be something to do with running pure. Because VS-UK rely on punkbuster and do not run pure we only put the realism and server side mod on the server.

I wonder if putting the rcon menu's server side is causing the issues.

With every new release of TW comes more functionality. It looks like we are reaching the limit of what the game will permit in terms of memory usage.

I have contacted IW for support in these matters before with no response however I will try again as it would be a real shame if you give up on TW now. All that hard work! :(

Parts, (JB) I'll never give up....... I might run 2 or 3 servers - all configured differently.

IW seems heavily constrained by Activision.... don't expect much from them. :(

I hope you've been in touch with Chris as he's also a great guy like yourself trying to enhance the entertainment value of CoD. I can only wonder what would be if the both of you brought out one beast of a mod. I believe it would be so inviting that it would be kick-ass and easily marketable. :P

Thanks again.

Parts,

I have two Servers running, one TW 2.3 (waiting for 2.3a) and a Merciless .5 Server.

H&A Raiders II TW 2.3 - 216.85.162.72:28960

H&A Raiders Merciless.5 - 216.85.162.74:28960

If you care to, you can also test on the TW server here.
