To run custom maps on my server, is it just a case of downloading a map and then ftping the pk3 file to the CoD Main folder? I understand each user would need the same pk3 file in their local COD\Main folder. Do I not need to run any commands from the console? If I then simply add the custom map into my current map rotation it should all work a treat?
Also looking at my server.cfg file via FTP it doesnt contain any changes I have made to the hostname, motd and map rotation? Also the format of the file doesn't look right? It looks very tricky to edit? Is notepad the best thing to view these cfg files?
1. Custom Maps
Yes, you FTP the map(s) .pk3 file to your servers MAIN folder. If you want the map in rotation, then you edit your server config and add the map code to it (i.e. gametype sd map mp_stanjel). To find out what the map code is, you can simply open the pk3 in WinZip and look for the "<map_name>.gsc" file (i.e. second_coming.gsc, mp_stanjel.gsc, etc.). Whatever the name of that map gsc file is, is the code name of the you use in your rotation or when manually loading it via the console.
2. Server Config
It all depends on how your host has formatted it. My host preformatted mine so I can just edit in Notepad. However, I've seen several cfg formats that don't look well in Notepad. For those type of cfgs/formats, use WordPad; it will properly format everything to make it much easier to read and work with.
As for it not saving your info, that's between you and jolt.uk...that and whether you're saving the file and uploading it to the right place; replacing the existing server cfg. If you're doing it right, it should be ok.
Oh, there's also the possibility that there's two server configs. My host has a dedicated.cfg and a server.cfg. They have different programs that launch their servers. One uses dedicated.cfg, the other uses server.cfg. When they setup their servers, however, both cfg files are installed, but only one is used. Check to see if there's other cfg files on there that have similar or the same settings as that server.cfg file.

Thanks Anex.
I haven't actually yet saved the server.cfg after editing it, which I did in the console. What command can I use to write to the cfg file within the console?
Can I have more than one rotation of maps? I've got all the default maps in a certain order but can I create a rotation of custom maps and run those from ingame when I feel like it?
Thanks for all the advice m8. :!:
I don't believe you can write to your server config. I know you can write to the config_mp.cfg file, but it does not and will not contain your actual server settings.
As for rotations, yes, you define multiple rotations by either creating a new cvar that contains a new rotation, then executing it using the VSTR command. Or, you can create extra cfg files that have map rotations in them, then just execute them when desired, Returning the server back to normal would just require executing your server config again.
Check out the Guides section, there's a config there that can help you with VSTR and custom commands.
