Anyone know if a player can use a joystick and how to set it up for cod?

Doubt it would work.

Maybe try the IWNation forums; they have a Tech Questions forum there, someone may offer a way to get it to work.

Well alot of gamepads similer to that of the console pads allow for binding of the buttons to letters on the keyboard. So yes this is possible, but you would need the more advanced gamepads I believe.

I used to play quake3 which actualy includes a button within its interface to turn on the joystick (Why is this button not in COD?).
It did not take long before i noticed how simlar cod and quake are so i decieded to try turing my game-pad on using the same cvar that quake uses. Bingo, it works!

the cvar is in_joystick but it will not enable it until restarted so use seta rather than set otherwise the cvar is reset also.

This is what to type in your console:
/seta in_joystick "1"
Now restart your client and config your controler.
