Hello everyone I am sick and tired of playing on COD4 servers with bad lag. Not only that but there are few 64man servers. Here are the server specs I am thinking about using.

Phenom 2 x4 3.4GHZ (965)
8GB of DDR3 1333ram
500GB Western Digital SATA 3.0 hard drive
600watt power supply

I would like to run a 64man COD4 server a 64slot teamspeak server and a Website on the same server. And if at all possable I would like to run a 64man COD5 server all on the same server. Would this server get the job done?

And also what kind of bandwidth requirements would I be looking at for lag free gaming?

64 slot servers will lag for many clients no matter how good the server hardware is.
Remember, the client has to draw all those players and crunch data from the server about what is going on with all those players. This is taxing on both the client hardware and connection.

IMHO a website should not be run on the same box. Apache, mysql, php, etc, etc use a lot of resources that would be better left for the game servers to use.

But the specs don't look too bad for game servers. Not sure if you will get to 64 slot servers to run smoothly on it, but I think one server that size would do ok.

Perhaps someone who runs 64 slot servers would be a better source of info on that as I have never run servers that size.

How many slots could I run where it will be lag free for everyone? Almost every COD 4 server I go on has lag problems. But I am always playing on 50 man servers. The one I play on has people timing out 24/7 it drives me insane. I will even stick to just running 1 cod4 server on the server if it will mean I will have a lag free server for everyone to enjoy.

To be honest it really depends on the players that are frequenting your server.

If the server is strong, then the lowest common denominator will be the client as discussed earlier.

What I would do is start with fewer slots and slowly move your way up. Get feedback from those in your community and pay attention to the in game chat for complaints about lag. Of course there will be folks out there that will lag in even a full 16 slot server, so keep that in mind.

Each time you step up the number of slots also take a look at the server resources when the server is full.

It will take you some time, but you will eventually hit that magic number where the server is good for the largest possible number of players.

It might be better for your community to have a server with fewer than 60 slots, but that more people enjoy being in.

Thanks again for the advice. The only people in the community so far is just myself. I just bought COD4 this week and almost every server I play on laggs. And like I say the one I play on times out and kicks people. My only guess is people are over loading their server with other game servers and what ever else they run on it. Eariler I jumped on a 24man COD4 server and it was the best I played on so far. It was a little lag but it wasent bad.

I know its not my PC because the BF:BC 2 servers I play on, most of them are lag free. Here are my PC specs

Phenom 2 x4 3.2GHZ (955)
4GB of ddr2 1066ram
275GTX 896mb
x-fi sound card
500gb hard drive
850watt power supply
windows 7 64bit

I am hoping if I make a lag free server that lots of people will want to play on it.

Just wanted to add if anyone has any advice about the server (do i need a server with more power? ect) , how many slots it can hold and how much bandwidth ill need. Please feel free to advise.

As for colocation I was thinking about going with the Colostore. I sent a request to the place asking a few questions. They said I would be the only server on a 100mb port that connects to a 1GB uplink and I will get 3,300GB of transfer per month. And they said game servers are allowed. Does this sound like I will have enough bandwidth and transfer per month?
