Subscribers to Total PC Gaming Magazine (Imagine Publishing) have been receiving letters informing them that the next issue will be their last. They're offering them either a refund or a subscription to another magazine by Imagine Publishing.
GI.biz is reporting that while the publication was profitable, the lack of support from retail for the PC market was hindering it's potential for growth.More info in the in this thread (http://www.totalpcgaming.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1807) over at the official Total PC Gaming forums (http://www.totalpcgaming.com/forum)

Before the Broadband internet I would buy computer mags primarily for the cover disks. The news in them is always out of date and the articles too. I can't remember the last time I got one? Print media is of little or no relevance to modern life. I don't even read books anymore, not off paper anyhow.

Not to mention how expensive they are!
I was recently looking over the news stand at a local store. I picked up a PC mag, I think it was maximum PC. It was ten bucks!
I had the same thought as you at the time Pen. Why would I pay that much money for a small mag, with stories that are yesterdays news, and a disk with things on it I could download in a few minutes?
I think that printed material such as this has seen its day, and is now losing its appeal.

I use to be a subscriber to PCgamer here in the states as well as listen to their podcasts.
I don't subscribe anymore as you both have mentioned, it's usually out of date and way too much $$.
However there are some mags I get in print for their in depth how too's, print only features and for reference. Like Popular science, Popular mechanics and several of my photography mags and Wire. Funny I don't look at any of those sites, I just mentioned.
However, I'm looking to move all those over to my iPad and get my subscriptions electronically to save paper and to have them all in one place for reference while I'm on the road.
As for getting my gaming news online, I do that but with a grain of salt, as most large media gaming sites, would not say anything "bad" about a dev or game, because they are worried about loosing their source or a free trip.

My browsers bookmarks are full of links to gaming sites. there are only three I look at daily. This one of course, no day could go by without FPSAdmin the other two are www.ggmania.com/ because they are not affiliated and just harvest news from other sites and www.rockpapershotgun.com. RPS are often more RPG orientated but never miss a thing and have well written articles.
