The newly published ESRB ratings certificate for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (http://kotaku.com/tag/battlefieldbadcompany2/) mentions that "players conduct missions on an unnamed Japanese island during World War II and then move into the modern day."
Earlier, we mentioned that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 would support weapons from last spring's Battlefield: 1943 (http://kotaku.com/5319835/bad-company-2-will-support-battlefield-1943-weapons) (pictured above). It sounds like this could be a beginning mission establishing the BFBC2 continuity, not a flashback level. But it could be that DICE is testing community reaction to the World War II genre, which of course many have complained is played out within FPSes. That said EA's ramping up a competitor to Modern Warfare (http://kotaku.com/5417372/ea-chief-talks-war-battlefield-medal-of-honor-and-getting-ahead-of-activision), and this might tip off ideas of going after World at War.
No surprises in the rest of the certificate. "Characters use profanity (e.g., "f**k," "sh*t," and "a*shole") during cutscenes and in the heat of battle." As I said, no surprises.

Wow, so dose this explain what happened to BF1943??? Are they to roll it up into BC 2?

Will we be able to put Wake into map rotation? What of the other BF1943 maps? This may raise more questions than it answers...

All good fun any how...

Wake Island is a staple in Battlefield games. This is great!

I honestly dont think I would buy 1943 if its released for PC. I bought it for PS3

I was looking forward to Battlefield 1943, this was before all the Bad company 2 excitement.

I could see the guys in our clan playing BF1943 and us running a server for it. I know it was only a limited game with just a few maps but it would have been fun. Several years ago we played lib on MoH:BT and that was just three maps.

As much as I would love BF1943 to come out for the PC I think it would be unwise for EA/Dice to release it the same time as BC2 coming from a marketing standpoint. If they truly want to make a lot of money on the game they should delay it to at least this fall. Reason being is who in the world is going to have time to play this when everyone for the most part is going to be playing BC2? Don't get me wrong I am a huge BF fan, but from a marketing perspective it just doesn't seem like good timing.

1943 as cheap dlc for BC2? I would shell out a bonus 5 bucks for it.

Perhaps they are testing out the map with the Frostbite engine, and will release bf 1943 later in the year. Its a good way to iron out bugs in the engine, without having to release a beta/demo.
