Infinity Ward NOT Developing Modern Warfare 3

Infinity Ward is not creating Modern Warfare 3, according to a VG247 source, and is instead working on something “completely new”.

The details come from US insiders. Infinity Ward has this far avoided the issue of its work after Modern Warfare 2, saying no decision had been made on further projects in the run up to the shooter’s launch last November.

“Right now we don’t have a clue what our next game is going to be, and we won’t know what it will be until we finish with Modern Warfare 2, which won’t be for a while,” studio frontman Rob Bowling told IGN UK last October (http://www.vg247.com/2009/10/21/infinity-ward-has-no-clue-about-game-to-follow-modern-warfare-2/).

MW2 DLC packs are scheduled to release this “spring” as a timed 360 exclusive (http://www.vg247.com/2010/01/07/ces-first-modern-warfare-2-dlc-on-360-this-spring/).

It’s unclear where the third game will be made if IW really has gone AWOL from the series.

We were told by one dev source that a Canadian studio was handling it, but another pointed to newly-formed Sledgehammer Games, headed by ex-Visceral bosses Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey.

Sledgehammer, based in the Bay Area, is currently recruiting for a multiplayer designer (http://jobs.gamasutra.com/Jobseekerx/ViewJob.asp?JobID=omkbgsIbx%2B31Ywd7dNz6q0gEcqaw) with “five years experience working on current AAA multiplayer shooters for current consoles and PC.”

The identity of Sledgehammer’s first project is yet to be announced.

Activision’s only Canadian developer is Vancouver-based Radical Entertainment, the studio behind last year’s free-roaming adventure, Prototype.

Rumour surrounding the Call of Duty franchise in general is escalating. A report yesterday (http://www.vg247.com/2010/01/06/rumour-treyarchs-next-call-of-duty-will-be-more-story-centric/) claimed that Treyarch is currently putting together a story-focused, Vietnam-based episode in the series for release later this year.
Activision had not returned calls at the time of writing.

After what MW2 PC turned into, all I can say is "One can only hope"

They better be an xbox exclusive dev after MW2:

This Spring, the first Modern Warfare 2 content packs will be available exclusively first on Xbox LIVE.

Computer and Video Games (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=230972) reports it "can confirm that Activision has pencilled in a November release for the seventh Call Of Duty - which will be set in the late 1960s, during the Vietnam War." They attribute this to a senior UK trade source, who also informs them "It's going to be November again - just as with World At War and Modern Warfare 2," adding: "Activision believes that it can own Christmas 2010, just as it has in the last two years." A seventh installment in the Call of Duty series of military shooters has not yet been officially announced, but the rumor mill seems to be heating up on this one, as this is the second unconfirmed report in as many days, following yesterday's (http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?action=viewstory&threadid=105992) report of rumors about the game's story structure.

Who cares..........
After what they made of the CoD serie, the beginning was good, and with cod2 the console like shit started, tried mw2 and was a big waste of money.
Bought it after being on holidays and heard lots of good comments from clan m8's, rather should have listened to my feelings before that.

All I can say is: IW, GTFO. We don't need or want them making PC games any more. Also looks like COD:NAM is going to be running up against MOH:Afghanistan this year. Hopefully the competition will force both studios to bring the very best to the table this time.

If this is true, it could be the best news for the CoD community and the franchise.

Lets hope whatever IW does next, it's console only

Im not holding my breath with Treyarch either as I think the decision was more Activisions than IW. Although I still hate IW for their blatent lies.
