server running but have a problem

i'm new to the running of a sever
when i start i get the console box come up, which is running
i can see my server on the local list on the ingame server list (useing my sons pc) but can not see it anyware else on internet for example not sure if i am doing something wrong please help
once i have sorted this i also want to play the game aswell as run the server on same machine any ideas

For one.... I suggest using a server config. Like the one at http://sos.noginn.com/codserver/. I use that one. All you have to do after completing the form is right click on the Desktop->New->Text Document (Not Microsoft Word). Once inside the document copy and past the scripted info. Then go to "save as" and save it as "all files" then type "myserver.cfg" in the name. Save it into C: Program Files\Call of Duty\Main. After all that start the COD console from multi player. Type "exec myserver.cfg" into the console and hit enter. There you go. If you have questions about that then, either reply here, or send me an E-mail. Once you get that I'll help you with your next question.

Do you have a firewall? If you do, it could be blocking your server from going out-bound to the receiving port(s). If you don't, just hit refresh like a million times and let it load entirely. I have the same problem; I once refreshed for 15 minutes no lie! I DO have a firewall and it IS blocking people from joining my server...but I don't know what ports to allow activity (ask someone else if it applies, and let me know :!: ). So if that doesn't work, I have one more suggestion.

sorry treid that still only shows on local but not internet,
i believe people can join by ip address but that limits me to about five players i would like about 20 at anyone point so ip address is not an option

My last suggestion.....I can't believe nothing else worked. Try adding:

seta sv_master1 "codmaster.activision.com"
seta sv_master2 "master0.gamespy.com"
seta sv_master3 "clanservers.net"
seta sv_master4 "master3.idsoftware.com"
seta sv_gamespy "1"

Add it to your ".cfg" server file...you'll see where to add it if you use wordpad to open your ".cfg" file. Ask someone else if this doesn't work...out of suggestions. :cry:

as people can join by ip maybe you could just tell me how i run the surver and play at the same time as stated in my original message

As for seeing it in the list, Check here first to see if the master list is showing you http://inherent.infinityward.com/index.php
Type in part of the name for your server and it should find it. If it does find it, then the internet is just being slow.

Make sure that your config file is setting the number of peeps, including private slots to 24(4 for private slots.)

Is this dedicated or listen server?

it can not find my server on the link you gave above as for internet being slow i've have server running for about 9 hrs now

What verison of CoD Are you running?
1.2 had the same problems.
