damn Mike, I only have a 10.2" screen :D reduced the image and added a click to enlarge!
Once I get home and on a box I can see more of the screen. we'll be removing the dedicated server section for MW2. We may leave the general discussion up but to be honest I want that gone as well as there is no need for console games here at FPSadmin.com
any PC gamer wishing to get support for MW2 should check the xbox live forums they should have all your answers there.

I am 100 percent on agreement with that ( in bold ). I want to get rid of the MW2 section at RGN, maybe leave the general disscussion up but the rest has got to go for sure.
And as for support, if anyone does ask a question on MW2 I will just give them the link to the xbox live forums and close the thread.

Your right about that..
So this might actually be fourzerotwo's new improved attitude toward pc gamers.

I doubt that's him. Just saw someone named Rob[wordthatrhymeswithHunt]Bowling as a registered user (blue link). Clicking the link lead me to 4chan.
Besides, saying that would confirm they are dropping the PC after Stillborn Warfare 2, and they probably won't announce that just yet.

I like the idea but with all the console sales they get....I think this will not have alot of punch behind it. If they really invested in IW net for pc and it flops like we all know it will. That will be the biggest wake up call.
Even with the unity shown on iw forums between pc and consoles I don't see the console guys supporting this. They will buy from activision if it suits them. No real reason not to.
Mike Nomad
10-21-2009, 06:18 PM
Believe this; they will FEEL a total boycott - Their Christmas sales will take a dive.
Fact; most PC Online players buy more than one copy. The loss of sales will have an impact in the area of a coupla million dollars less in sales.
If the effort is not taken..... then we all deserve exactly what we get.

People must NOT buy this program. In fact, they should boycott Activision altogether for ALL Christmas Sales. Except WaW.
Hit 'em in the wallet. It always gets their attention.;)

Is it a true boycott if clans still run and operate CoD servers? Wouldn't it be more effective if you went looking for a CoD (1, 2, MW, WAW) server to find 5% or less than there were the month before?
I think that would send a bigger statement, otherwise it just seems null imho.
How many clans are taking down all of their CoD servers?

No i don't think this will do anything else but do more damage. Renaming the servers to "BOYCOTT MW2" is a much stronger message that we may think... The average Joe Pubber, the one IW tells us is being favored for MW2, the ONLY to get at him (as he doesnt go to websites like this) is the In-Game Browser.
I know personally if i opened up CS:S server list and saw that most server had something like "BOYCOTT L4D2" i would go and get informed on the subject. That is what we are hoping to achieve.

i have to agree with Zeroy there, if we want to educate the public we must make them start to think.
Get ^1 BOYCOTT MW2 in your server name and msg the public to look here and elsewhere why it is we feel we need to make this stand. Not just for our sakes but ultimately for their sakes.
For no other reason than I would estimate 90%+ of us here run custom servers of one variety or the other, we have to educate the public that do come to our servers that this is what the whole IW.net alpha + steam + vac + No dedis +no mods means to them as a playing populace.
Ok We are not all communities the size of RGN or the other big clans but even my small clan has its regular visitors who come back again and again because they like the way we run our servers, the way we play, and the spirit in which we play the game.

I see what you are saying, though you are still providing a means to promote IW/Activision as oppose to shutting down CoD servers and supporting another Dev/Publisher's game while naming it the same thing or adding a message.
Those who are new to CoD will continue to play so long as there is a place. Though if that place was limited with poor playability = more effective campaing in all honesty, right?

I have no intention of buying this game but...
They have found an extremely profitable model. It's one that closely replicates the console experience on the PC. It's one that wrestles total control from the gaming communities and keeps it firmly in their hands. From that position of power they can then charge what they want. Call it "Download Content" or "membership fees". People pay to play WoW they will pay to play CoD.
I can see a future where you have to pay to play your games. Imagen if Valve started charging to use Steam, I have 15 or so games on my Steam account. Or DICE started to charge for authentication?? No more Battlefield:2 or newer games without stumping up some cash. It's something Novalogic has started to do, no pay no play!
Any game where you have to authenticate or use a web based browser to play would be real easy to introduce a subscription system for.
This isn't the beginning it started a while ago with WoW. I fear that this has an inevitability to it. One must never forget that the only reason for a shareholder owned company to exist is to make money for the shareholders. Anything that gets in the way of that will be swept away. If "your game" is dependent on one of these company's then you will be stomped on if your goals differ from theirs.
There are over 135 thousand names on that petition. That's great but wont make a difference to the final outcome. The only lesson that will be learn form this is the delivery of information and how better to manage expectations of the customer base. It will be seen as a failure of PR not one of game design, this is a marketing issue!
Of course they would love our sales but given that this is a high stakes game we don't stand a chance against the money making machine that would be a subscription CoD!
In five year I fear that we will be a shrinking community playing old games. Or playing games made by independent or fringe development houses. Might even see a rise in Opensource gaming where no company can ever take it away from us. Sure as heck never going to be a big blockbuster like CoD!

I agree with you Pendragon.
This is why I don't believe simply renaming the servers is enough -
I thought this was interesting, since I own both CoD:MW for Xbox 360 and PC:
"With the release of the recent full-length trailer for Modern Warfare 2, the gaming populous' attention has been turned away from the original Modern Warfare (considering the game's getting a follow-up, we think its Modern-ness could be disputed by this point, but we digress). However, Infinity Ward community commissar Robert Bowling (a.k.a. fourzerotwo) recently stopped by Major Nelson's podcast to explain why CoD4 shouldn't be ignored quite yet -- it just hit the remarkable 13 million player mark on Xbox Live."

That may be so, but as Henry Ford once said,
" There are lies, Damned Lies and Statistics"
I can take your Game monitor figures and trump them with a quick post of the stats from PsB regarding streaming
Call of Duty 4 1561 2003004
thats 1561 streaming servers and 2,003,004 unique CoD4 GUID's registered.
Ok its not 13million, buts its a potential lost 2m sales.
we just have to educate those 2m unique guids not to buy MW2 in its present state.
i for 1 dont have my servers registered on GM but I do have them streaming, in 2 places.
Mind you while there I also noted that despite 402's dig about hacking in COD4 bans equate to 0.97% of those 2m players. OK Cracked servers wont be streaming but if you play on a cracked server what do you expect, you probably havent bought the game anyway.

I too love quoting Henry Ford... lol
I went to Game Tracker and found even less amount of servers registering for CoD4 compared to Game Monitor. How can I find out how many CoD4 servers are up and running and how many unique id's have been logged any other way?
d2sjones
10-22-2009, 12:47 PM
Outside of the game server browser Im not sure there is a way.
Gm tends to be the most up to date.
But I have to say I take the 2m online COD4 players with as much doubt as I take the 13m console players.
i am sure that there have been 13m unique console players registerd BUT not all are active, I would be surprised if its even 50% of that number currently playing.
Console games are a commodity, people buy or are gifted them, they play for a while and then trade them in against the next best thing. Somebody else goes into GAMe or whatever and buys it 2nd hand and then has a play on the same game.
As a matter of interest be nice to hear how many of those 13m had their XBL accounts terminated when it was found that they were playing copied games on modded consoles.
I personally know 4 folks that has happened to.
In the same way I would be VERY surprised if half of all 2m of the cod4 GUIDs that passed through PsB streaming servers even still own the game never mind play it.

I have no problem supporting this. I have already canceled my servers and my preorders. It has nothing to do with a boycott but a shitty product without the features that it should have.
On a larger scale.... the nub console guys will buy it up and be just as happy as ever. This goes for any activision title. I think they will take the loss of PC in stride because it is not a loss to them but a gain because in the long run they don't have to code for it or listen to us.
I'm sad to say but maybe cod should just die when the kids get tired of it on their xbox and don't remember it when cod7 comes out .
I'm really looking for a new game for my clan but there is nothing really out there.
