Server Help

I have read and read and read things on here until i have such a headache its not even funny anymore. But i am running a cod2 server from game servers and i want to put some of the :[GOB]: maps in it, but each time i put their iwd files in the /cod2/main folder in the servers ftp section, it never downloads the map EVEN with server and client side downloads turned on.

Can someone for the love of god help me out here? I tried setting up a http thing and that seems like more of a hassle then it's worth.

Snippz like I told you on xfire earlier you still have some reading to do ;)

Redirect is tricky to understand but once you understand how it works and how to set it up you will not have another server without it.

The files in your servers main folder can be copied and placed on a web site to be downloaded by players in-game. If they download from the server it will be at 12kb per second. From a website they get anywhere from 100kb to 3MB per second. SO, redirect is the way to go.

On your web space look for a folder named public_html

Create a folder in there named main

Put your mod file and map iwd's in there.

In your server.cfg add the address to your web space: http://www.mysite.com/main/

That's it, high speed redirect.

If you decide to use a mod like eXtreme or AWE then it gets a little more tricky but not much. Good luck and keep trying you will get there.

I know dude. I tried to find that folder on the site and trust me it's not accessable. I got our site from forummotion.com and paid for the domain name.

Other then a few options in the admin panel, i have no access to get to the actual website folders and ect. I'm not to glad that i can even upload files to
an actual thread. So i am thinking about making another site, but i don't have
the cash to spend for hosting, nor to figure out how to develop it and get it
all setup you know?

Also i tried to find a free http site and well that confused me so bad it's not even funny. I'm no noob at html and things like that, but it's been so long since i have done it, that i am back to stage 1. I've read and read on this forum until i can't stand to read another green letter lol.

So let me put it simple. IS there ANY website that has cheap hosting and cheap setup? Cause lord oh lord, i have had nothing but trouble since i started this clan and i am close to throwing it out the window. -_-"

try with GoDaddy web hosting or something like that, they offer huge DL transfer per month and speed should be alright if from America.

With the domain should be like like www.yourdomain.com/cod2files/(all the map files here) and if that works in browser, should work in game too if the redirect is setup correct.

I'm prolly repeated what been said but oh well :P

Hit me up on xfire and I'll setup the ftp way of redirecting files directly from the server instead of needing a web space.

It's like this:

That's it, let players download fast via FTP.

Now, depending on your server provider you may need adjust the IP and folder name. FTP into your server and see if there is a name on the top level before the "main" folder.
