Entitled "Infamy" and it does mean something.
If you remember a famous US president denouncing the attacks on the US Naval base at Pearl Harbor, located on US soil during World War 2, you will understand why IW calls their latest trailer "Infamy"

Okay, now just to preface this...I am perhaps one of the least patriotic/nationalistic sorts you will meet. Really not fond of all that flag waving stuff...
Is it just me or are IW games getting very anti-American? They wanted to nuke us in the last game and the wondrous saviors of the world were British because the Americans botched it up again. COD games always had you playing as allies so I didn't think much of being the godlike British at the time.
Now, apparently the U.S. is being invaded and they take the White House. (Somehow I bet we have to take it back as the British.) I get the fascination with D.C. burning in the post-apocalyptic sense of Fallout 3, but that is a post nuclear apocalypse sci-fi sort of thing. This seems like...."hmmmm what would make people around the world happy and make American teenagers say SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET.....Oh, I know! Let's see how many American icons we can have burning in one scene. " Or perhaps there was even less thought put into it and the greedy unoriginal punks at Activision just wanted to lure players from the Fallout 3 DLC so they decided to include all the locales from that game (Pittsburgh was spotted in another trailer wasn't it?). I guess I shouldn't expect originality in a trailer that looks like it stole almost all its cinematics from Black Hawk Down (another American failure media moment), but this is the company that took camera angles from Band of Brothers and Enemy at the Gates for the original COD.
Everyone may say this is just what we get for how many American games are "gungho America's the best" but I really don't remember the last time I blasted holes in your nation's capital in a contemporary sense. If anything I feel bad for all the bad "Russians" I killed in the COD4 sniper mission for no apparent reason...but I did that as a Brit if I remember. Other than that...the Great Wall map for BF2 is the only other current national symbol I can think of playing war games on....and it is in rather pristine shape. Otherwise almost every game I have played war on national icons in has been set in a historic time (flying around the Parliament building in a Spitfire or running though the Brandenburg Gate in WW2). I would enjoy playing as the British in the War of 1812 when they sacked Washington...America's invulnerability is not the issue here. Plus, I think the urge to play in cool locals in MP is even respectable enough, but this SP bit in the trailer seems to hit a new low for anti-America fedishists.
I probably won't be the only one questioning this a little if perhaps someone works out how much destruction IW decided would look nifty of the Vietnam War Memorial or the Iwo Jima Memorial, but they probably left those out to avoid issues with the Marine Corps or veteran groups that so far have lended support to the COD series. Heck they demoed COD:W@W at a Veterans Day celebration in America for release.
So. Really to sum up. I don't have any problem with games making artistic statements and pushing people's comfort levels for a reason. But in this trailer, MW2 seems to be a cheap flick on par with Independence Day....but without the thought. I think IW cares too much about what would be COOOOL to a 13 year old on his Xbox. It is a very sad place for a series that made thousands of young adults actually read and learn about WW2 because of the tidbits of history shown between levels.
Maybe for IW's next game they can come to your country and figure out how to render your iconic buildings and veteran's memorials in flames just for giggles. That would be SWEEEEEEEEEEET...

In a shorter version of above lol.
It looks like PC gone too far .... like getting bashed for fighting abroad in RL and games now they gone full circle lmao .... as if!
Plus using the wording "Infamy" in a game BUT out of context would rile me if i was american!
Anyways its a game and we want to shoot peeps so why can't they make up names .... like the goodies and the baddies like in the old days lmao ;)

What kindof mines are those about :58 - 1:00 into the video? Like a disk of schrapnel or something...

We've been playing games on international soil for god knows how long, I think this is a way for IW to get everyone talking. Think about it, it's almost like taking CoD to the next level (In space/future) but I don't think they could sell that. Thus them taking the fight to the USA.
They look like anti personnel mines. These mines pop up and then explode. I bet they had to "Hollywood" them a bit to make it more interesting. Wonder if you'll see that effect in MP. I guess they would work for the kill cam shots.

I think you are looking into this a bit "too" much... We see monuments in all sorts of games either crushed and reduced to rubble or set ablaze, WW2 games do it now.
I'm not saying it's okay, it's just that WW2 was one of the most horrific displays of destruction to date and its not even given a second thought as to what is actually being displayed...Why? because it's history?
Germany takes out the "swastika" in all of their WW2 games that come into the country, or ban it.
A game company makes a game that hits closer to home and now its a concern?Because its present day?
The fact that something like this could happen makes it seem more real to everyone... The fact it could happen to one of the largest superpowers in the world makes it even scarier.
"6 days in Fallujah", a game, has been stopped due to its content.... too real and close to Home, it happened, I understand. But, I guess it'll be okay in 5-10 years once the incident is considered "later" history like maybe Desert Storm or even later, by leaps and bounds, like WW2.
If this game was a concern then it would've been stopped a lot sooner...like "6 days in Fallujah"
Remember I understand your point and I am a person who likes to display an American flag on my vehicle and one outside my house... but this doesn't make me lose any respect for the game. :salute:

I for one am glad to see something different, it seems almost every fps takes place in Europe so it's nice to see a game based in places I know of. I'm sure Single player will be great unlike Multiplayer which I doubt I will play now.
I had high hopes for MP until the 10001 perks and the spam tastic hud was shown. Never liked the idea of "You can't use these weapons until you kill X amount of people or gain x amount of points with the other ones." If I wanted to play a RPG I would play world of warcraft. I see a game where hackers that get high kill streaks and use the super weapons like the ac130 all the time.
It's a console kiddies game from the little i've seen so far. With big flashing boxes scrolling on screen of who they kill in the lower middle or who is the best at something in the upper right corner. Need a 1920x1200 res just to see the game.
With any luck the PC version will be different and allow customization, I won't hold my breath on that. IW really need to show PC MP footage because all that the Xbox360 footage is showing me is a kids game that I do not want. I bought CoD4 on day one but I will be waiting for reviews before I buy MW2.

I must say i ain't impressed with this Trailer. Ok the setting is different as are the player models but Im not seeing anything ground-breaking 2 years on from COD4 release ... :/
I would think the SP should be top notch as IW usually delivers on that front. The MP side im not chuffed at all so far, its all Console run'n gun we've seen so far with zillions kill streaks bonuses and what not.

The problem is Zeroy, until we get our hands on the game and see for ourselves what is different or improved, these "trailers" mean nothing.
Too bad there will be no demo, we'll have to wait for community reviews (because we can't trust the so called big news sites and their hidden agendas of keeping the dev/pubs happy).

Well all that is very true. I think what really bothers me is that felt like destroying the symbols for the sake of showing people those symbols brought down by terrorists or whatever. It is like IW saying "Look what could happen tomorrow to the U.S., wouldn't that be cool?"
I have played the BF2 maps Operation Harvest, Midnight Sun, and Operation Road Rage and take really no offense at them being placed in the U.S. In fact part of their appeal is that you can fight in some recognizable areas. I think a change in settings is just fine, the fictional nature of the settings is better in those though.
I also have no desire to blast my way through enemies on my way from the blazing inferno of the National Gallery's art works through Trafalgar Square by the collapsed Admiralty arches and on through a bombed out Whitehall to a Parliament building with its tower collapsed. Can't say I am enticed in the least at putting my foot on Nelson's face as I climb through the rubble on the way to an enemy infested Buckingham place through a now hellish St. James (assuming a different objective than the above from Trafalgar). I am just guessing at a similar situation from my limited American knowledge, but I never have done anything like that in a video game no matter how many times they were set in Europe in any current European city.....
As I explained above, it is the way the symbols are present that is bothersome. Either they have an important message like 6 Days in Fallujah, or they are just greedy tactless idiots who think they are giving the people what they want. Probably the same sort of thinking that made them decide on a Rio level, largest growing untapped market anyone?
I think I am just not ready to start whoring out my country's symbols for a quick buck to those who think they look cool on fire.
Aside from that, yes the rest of the trailer was disappointing. In the first seconds of the trailer you can see a box in the background that is an exact static from COD5. I also found the bounding mines quite funny too in the sense that they are just new models for bouncing betties. Can someone tell me again how they weren't going to take anything from COD5?
I agree, these trailers/videos doesn't really amount to much until there is a demo or real review when the game comes out.
The SP looks pretty good with all the vehicles and such. Hope the MP has something to offer us.
Last time I heard, there are NO vehicles in MP right?

you're awfully bitter and pessimistic for a game that isn't even out yet. It isn't WHORING OUT YOUR COUNTRY, if it pertains to the story. There are gimmicks in movies and games that have objects we can all recognize just to get publicity; however, you cannot make that judgment now as you didn't play the full single player game.
Just because cod5 did something doesn't mean that they cant use it again in the context of present day. If a game did something they, the developers, liked.... then why not use it?
To be disappointed for the game solely based on a trailer, then you are basing opinions poorly. So by THAT logic you can't like a game solely from a trailer either.
to sum it up: the game isn't out yet, stop being so sensitive. Once the game comes up, then you can play it and become all emo.

It isn't that stuff from COD5 is WW2 like, it is Robert Bowling's earlier statement that makes including things from COD5 a joke.
"According to Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling, Modern Warfare 2 won't be following in any of the footsteps blazed by last year's Call of Duty: World at War by Treyarch. "We're not taking any pages out of World at War's book," said Bowling. "
http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/5702.html (first link I found to it).
And I think the point about being pessimistic about a trailer is plenty well founded because there will not be a demo and most reviews will not talk about such matters. So my purchase does in part rely on how greedy and soulless Activision/IW seem. So far they have not convinced me to buy it.
