I'm having a problem with getting CoD to run. I got the game installed on my system and that went fine. (This is a legit copy) Anyway, I go to play single player...no problem, everything works. But when I go to load multiplayer, It brings up the start screen as if it is going to work and then a windows error message pops up saying there was an error with codMP.exe and closes the program down.

I tried re-installing the game and the same thing happens over and over. I took the game and installed it on a 2nd pc that is not as good as my main pc and the game runs fine!

I also took the game to a friend and installed it on his computer to test to see if it was just my pc and it gave him the same error message.

My main pc and my friends is running Windows XP and the crap pc that i installed on that the Multi-player is working on is running windows server 2003. It doesn't make sense though.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

well the problem is fixed and CoD is now running on my primary system. I can't say that I found the EXACT cause of the problem. but i went ahead and tried a WindowsXP Pro Windows Repair/re-install and that had no avail. So i did the last resort and reformatted my OS Parition and reinstalled windows then. re-loaded my crap and the game worked. So i'm pretty sure it was either windows or some other software....

THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT guys! See you in game.

I had this same problem until last night. One of the IW engineers was a huge help and hooked me up with the workaround below. Turns out its a bug in the code that is going to be fixed in the next patch. Meanwhile, there is a workaround (besides reinstalling the OS).

Add this to the MP shortcut:

+set cl_motd 0

That will avoid the bug that's crashing you.

See this thread (http://www.iwnation.com/Forums/index.php?showtopic=340) for more details.

IW customer support is bloody amazing...

This should be made a sticky. This problem with mp not working for people is a big issue and there is a solution as posted above. Lets make people aware of this.
