*WARNING!* VIOLATION (GAMEHACK) 89182 (http://bashandslash.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1429#p7018)

VIOLATION (GAMEHACK) 89182

DO NOT DOWNLOAD Game Optimizer Pro 1.0 !!

This just popped up in the Pbbans forums and is worth noting.

Apparently Game Optimizer Pro 1.0 is a hack programme, written by game hackers for their own amusement and available for download.

Two Problems Reported:

It may screw up your pc and you will need to reboot to safe mode to get rid of it.
Playing on a Pb enabled server with it will get you a global ban for the VIOLATION (GAMEHACK) 89182

I'm hearing mixed reports on this - I know people who are using this on PB enabled servers. Anyone else have information?

You had me worried there for a minuet. The thing I have used in the past is called "Game Booster (http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html)" and very good it is too... Less of a concern since my last upgrade but I'm sure once games become more complex I will be using it again...

Designed for helping optimize your PC smoother and much more responsive in the latest PC game play. With only 1 touch of a button, Game Booster will instantly accelerate your computer to the top performance.

Most importantly one mouse click puts it all back again LOL

I have used a couple of products from these guys, sort of no brainer one button thing. Very easy to recommended to less techie friends and clan m8's.

Did you ever use a console "timedemo" command in a game or a benchmark to measure the difference? I strongly doubt the improvement is measurable! There's a big difference between thinking it's noticable and knowing it's measurable. :)

From my experiments with disabling the default Windows services I didn't get more FPS. Most services are inactive anyway, thus they don't waste any CPU cycles and Windows can swap their memory out to the pagefile if a game needs it.

Well, at least that's my personal experience. I am always very sceptical if some program promises to improve my computer's performance "With only 1 touch of a button".

I agree that a lot of these things are dubious. My testing showed a marginal FPS improvement. the noticeable thing was that the fps did not drop so dramatically with in the thick of the action. One of my clan members reported that his game did not crash wen running Game booster. This was a sign of deeper issues with his system but it fixed it as far as he was concerned.

we all have to be weary of magical claims of programs wanting to fix our computers for free. Some are worth a look at least. some a of little benefit others are downright dangerous but one or two do what they say on the tin and are worth the hard drive space they take.

Give Game Booster a go, it might work for you it might not... If your PC is well sorted and tweaked to the max then it will probably have no affect. If however your PC has not been cleaned out recently, it's been a year or two since the last time the hard drive was formatted. Then it will probably make a noticeable difference.
