I know it's not exactly gaming news, but still substantial. I wonder what this will mean for the world (and for businesses).

This type of thing happens from time to time. Someone gets a small court to find in their favor. It makes the headlines and triggers some interesting "what if" conversations. Then they slip quietly away.

MS has been butting heads with the EU for years and nothing much has happened. If MS can withstand the attentions of the worlds most powerful bureaucracy (almost nation) then Texas court house doesn't stand a chance...

If you follow the source back to an cnet article, it states they have already paid 200M and are being fined another 20 or 60 M (US dollars).

You would think they would not have the rights to sell Word... (hint get an open source version, you'd be much better off) -NVG3D-

As you know I only use MS for gaming, but with the resent demise of my laptop I'm going to have to put Linux on this gaming rig just so I can get some work done...

Don't kill your game rig, just install Open Office - or at least dual boot.

It will be duel boot, probibly with Ubuntu or PCLinuxOS. I like the community at PCLinuxOS, they are a nice bunch.

Might look around to see if I have an old hard drive around I much prefer to run in on a second drive.

Just a couple of things keep me with Windows. The guys in the clan, I have been mucking around with them for too long to turn my back. It has been a while since a game has interested me enough to play after the guys have finished, but ArmA:2 would appear to be that game. It has me hooked in a way that no game has for years. So much to my own disgust I have to keep Windows.
