View Full Version : NEW MAPS from 1.3 lag
Is anyone else having problems with the new maps from 1.3 lagging?
All the other maps run fine, low pings and low lag, but when the server gets to neuville and the other one, it laggs like crazy.. almost unplayable. people start gtting pings close to 200. I normally get a ping of 40-90 on the other maps, but the new ones are just bad.
I run a linux dedicated server. it has a celeron 2ghz processor and 1 gig of ram. i host a 32 man TDM server, and the internet connection is using 3 OC3 lines, so i dont really have any latency problems for the most part.
Is anyone else seeing this problem?
This is my first gaming server that im hosting and running so i may be doing something wrong, but im pretty familiar with server tuning.
I did some searches on CPU utilization and it seems that running at 60-70 percent is pretty much normal, which is what my system runs at when im runnign the server. Do you think that a CPU upgrade serverside would help?

60-70 percent is way too high! I can only imagine a cpu load that big when ur server is a 600Mhz machine..
We run COD and Blackhawk down on 1 2,4Ghz server, and we got loads of cpu time to spare.
Our server is a w2k version though, maybe the linux version is buggy ?
We used to run Mohaa on a linux box, gave us lot's of abnormality's that w2k machines didn't have. But that could be co-incidence.

CoDADmin's servers when both were running full 30 player and 24 player, were using 80-90% CPU
Actually, i used CODadmins server as a frame of reference. I saw that post with the 71 or so percent utilization and i thought that my cpu utilization wasnt too bad. On the other maps it hits between 40-60 on a full load, but on the new maps, it can spike to 80 give or take.
So are any other servers experiencing more lag than they should on the new maps, and do you guys think that it might be CPU related?
We notice a slight FPS drop on Bocage, but no discernable lag.

Our servers are lagging on the two new maps. They are both Linux Dedicated servers with plenty of bandwidth and processing power...
Now about those weapon fixes (read: "problems")... they're even overriding our custom weapons mod.

Not noticing any problems running it on W2k3
Bugs with the patch seem to be all linux based.
so do you think it has something to do with the 1.3 patch?
I went and got a new CPU lol.. Im going to install it tomorrow, ill let you guys know if it made a difference.
I'm running a 2ghz celleron and upgrading to a 2.8g p4. Hoping that it will make a difference. Im running a 32 man server right now, hoping after the upgrade, i can actually beef it up to 40. But with the Cellery i have in it right now, i seem to be able to run fine with 25 peeps.. I have a very strong suspicion that its not the network thats causing the lag, because i notice the CPU peg to about 80 to 90 when i get the lag. Its also lag across the board. Everyones ping goes up to the same amount, sometimes the same value.. like everyone has a 199, which leads me to believe that lag in gameplay is process based. I also used the small patch to install it from and upgrade from 1.2 .. I put together another install in another directory that i upgraded with the big patch which is more straight forward than the small upgrade, maybe that will make the difference as well. Its just hard to troubleshoot when you have people playing, and you dont want to disrupt them.
Ill have to do a search on other reported bugs with the 1.3 linux upgrade, but thanks for the responses guys.. preciate it..

I noticed 65-70% cpu from my 1.3 server with 30 players in Neuville TDM. Taking force-respawn off seems to help quite a bit (still w/ killcam off).
Anything under 20 players uses <10% cpu max (p4 2.8/1.5gb), usually 3-7%. As soon as it gets to 22-23, cpu stays at 20% and increases considerably the more players I add.
My 1.1 server only gets to about 35-40%(dawnville) with 30 players, 1.3 (neuville) does about 40-50% usually with 30. I don't know if its the gameserver itself, or the map but Neuville + lotta players = CPU hog.
In every other respect, 1.3 uses less resouces than the 1.1 server. I have both set to 22 public right now, and 1.1 is always about 15% while 1.3 is in the 7-8 range.
Yeah, i noticed it was a CPU hog too. Well i upgraded the CPU, and it seems to have done the trick.. it runs at around 40 percent on the new maps with 30 player load. Im running a 2.8ghz p4 now, but the problem is, no one jumps on anymore.. hahah.. Been monitoring the netowrk traffic to with ntop, and man, 30 players really produces a lot of traffic, around 700-800 megs per hour fully maxed with players. I did about 18gigs of traffic one day, and im a little worried that if people really start playing on my server again, that I'll hit my traffic cap on my server which is around 500gb a month. But right now i dont have to worry about it heh.. Thanks for all the help guys.. really preciate it..

I run a 52 users server... And on the new maps it lags like a bitch..
Server spec are
2.8Ghz P4 w/ht
1 Gig DDR
Multi OC48 and T3 backbones (on 100mbit dedicated switch)
Win2k
with 52 users cpu runs fine at about 70% on new maps it almost kills the box...
Can someone help me this?
