http://www.fpsadmin.com/gallery/main.php/d/218-1/bf2old.gifThe official Battlefield UK forums (http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/battlefield-2/470046-battlefield-2-1-50-status.html#post7713107) has some news and information (lots of info) regarding the next BF2 patch.

Bazajaytee, the Associate Producer for Dice posted the following information regarding the BF2 1.5 patch.Firstly, sorry I have been away for so long, its been a busy time. So here as per request in a number of threads here is an update to where we are with 1.50.

Yes its still coming
We have been working on a few things to do with DRM as old versions of Battlefield 2 use an old version of SafeDisc
We have had a number of last minute hacks appear which we have made fixes for to help stabalise the servers.
We have a minor issue to solve with the Chinese version of the game.

While I can't give an exact date, we are aiming to release our first Beta towards the end of April '09 as long as everything else goes well.
He goes on to hint bout a beta for the new map:The new map is ready for beta and to get feedback from everyone. So its finished if you guys like it.
And a bit more in regards to the DRM mentioned above:DRM has always been on Battlefield.
SafeDisc, SecuROM and PACE depending on which version of each game you have.
DRM doesnt have to be as punishing as it was with Spore. Battlefield doesnt do limited installs. It does protect the exe files though.
What we are looking at doing for Battlefield is removing the requirement for the DVD to be in the drive during boot up. Whether we can get this going is what we are checking. It won't limit your installs on other machines or limit how many times you can install though.
Info regarding the change log and the online hacks they are addressing: Quote:
============
Update v1.50
============
FEATURES
- Additional support for Windows Vista.
- Added Highway Tampa as a required map.
- Added a new map called Operation Blue Pearl.
GAMEPLAY TWEAKS
- Changes made to both the J10 and F35B to make them more balanced. Please note that the J10 is a superior dogfighter to the F35B and as such these two aircraft will never be equally matched.
- AA targeting tweaked to make it more effective.
- Added checks to prevent "runway grieving".
- Various changes made to prevent cheating.
- Tweaked the hit detection, hits will be more accurate to the model.
There is no information on which hacks we have dealt with or how but there are quite a few. There is also another item missing from the list for legal reasons and will be a case of knowing it when the update comes out for Beta.

What does that mean?Speedexploit with Parachute and Car/APC?

If someone stands in front of the plane because they didnt get it then the plane takes off and kills the guy on the runway the player will not be able to punish the pilot and the pilot will not lose any points.
This only works for the plane and only while it is doing its take off from the runway. So if you run over someone with a jeep on the runway you'll lose points and can be punished. You can't fly low and TK someone on the runway either.

Very nice!!I hope you fixed these Crash to Desktop hacks and made the commander assets serverside controlled to prevent it being hacked after few months.

Yep we have http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/images/smilies/smile.gif
A lot more info is in this thread (http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/battlefield-2/470046-battlefield-2-1-50-status.html) (source of the above), where Bazajaytee actually interacts with the members of their forum by answering their questions regarding the upcoming patch.

I really hope they get this right.

Over the last year or so there have been some contrite noises from EA. There has been some of the normal bull and bluster that EA is famous for. There have been some almost apologetic words from them too.

If you read this announcement it "feels" honest. I just hope that they are going to deliver. The number of times EA has disappointed the gaming community is countless.

As for the release date, just get the patch right! the game is several years old, a few weeks or months wont make any difference.

Release when it's done and not before! Don't let the marketing boys push or the guys in suits bully.
