ISSUE: Settings for weapon - SMOKE
---------------------------------------------------

As it's possible to adjust tabun gas and flare settings, does anyone know or have experience what are the hidden (but adjustable) settings are for smoke?

I'd like to make some small tweak to the standard setting but can't seem to find it.

Thanks in advance.:D

What do you mean by "adjust"? Less visible smoke or more visible tabun gas? First, I would consider that as lightweight cheating. Secondly, I've treid out several configs and there isn't any way to modify that stuff IMHO. What you could do is limiting all details the oldschool way (picmic, lodscale, textures) so smokepufss might have a lower resolution but I wouldn't count on that since many servers out there have different PB restrictions which would kick ya for doing so.

First, thanks for your response.

Second, I wholeheartedly disagree on adjustments being lightweight cheating. Dude. I think you may be thinking something different than I.

Some of the weapons are not realistic with its default settings. Ex. Flares. The brightness and radius is too small by default. We have adjusted to make them more realistic...not something crazy or for cheating purposes. We are building a tactical server, not a cheating server.;)

BTW, you CAN adjust those settings, hence my question. ;)

Lastly, what I'm looking for is to adjust the smoke radius and smoke time duration, also fade out settings. As they are by default, it's not realistic.

These are so-called hidden settings but are adjustable nonetheless and it's possible to change while keeping the server hardcore

I won't affirm you're a cheater since I don't know you;). I thought you're talking about modyfing those values on clientside only, since that would result in a big advantage over all other players. If you're talking about modifying the server (where every client will recieve the same settings) I'm unaware of anything like that. Sorry...

I've seen these for the tabun gas:
// Poison gas stuff?
set poisonDuration "8"
set tabun_effect_radius "150"
set tabun_shock_radius "150"
set tabunGasDuration "3"
set tabunInitialGasShockDuration "7"
set tabunWalkInGasShockDuration "4"

And this for flares:
////////////////////////////////////
// Flares
set flare_distance_scale "16"
set flare_duration "8"
set flare_effect_radius "400"
set flareBurnOutFadeWait "0.65"
set flareDisableEffects "0"
set flareLookAwayFadeWait "0.45"

This for fire (e.g. molotov cocktail)
// Fire
set fire_audio_random_max_duration "1000"
set fire_audio_repeat_duration "1500"
set fire_spread_probability "0"
set fire_stage1_burn_time "3000"
set fire_stage2_burn_time "0"
set fire_stage3_burn_time "0"
set fire_world_damage "20"
set fire_world_damage_duration "8"
set fire_world_damage_rate "0.25"

I haven't seen one for smoke other than to enable / disable:
set scr_weapon_allowsmoke "1"

I bet with some expermentation you could come up with the commands. Maybe:
set smoke_duration "#"

I don't know - best I have. :salute:

Thanks guys for your comments!

First of all, I should have been more clear. I meant server side settings. LOL! Good comment. Didn't even cross my mind. ;)

I am aware of the molotvs, flares, and tabun gas settings. Thanks for suggesting these. We have these settings modified to more realistic settings now to the point where we and our guest players are very happy. The smoke settings seem to be the last one that I cannot yet figure out.:confused:

Has anyone else had any successful experiences with adjusting the smoke settings on "the server side?" :) We have tried with experimentation, particularly with smoke "duration" to see if it would work and so far....nada. :(

Any help is appreciated.

BUMP!

Anyone tried to adjust the server side smoke settings? Any help would be appreciated

I asked around and it appears smoke is hard coded. There are those who have resolved this via mod, but there isn't a way to do this with out a mod.

Thanks to zeroy and robbo for their answers.

Well thanks a lot for checking into this deeper than I could. It's unfortunate but somehow I suspected it was hardcoded as it is also one of the "special grenades" that you can't have more than one of.

Both Tabun gas and Molotovs are adjustable.

Thank you guys for your efforts to help. I appreciate it.

Sure there is, change em :) Our 24/7 DOME server had them
adjusted(Tabun) to be worthless. When doing so, lower #'s
head towards worthless. I did have ours set to 1, and when
they went off the noise occurred but nothing happened.

Flares, I extended and made better and longer by moving the
numbers UP.

The way I see it, if it is your server and you hate tabun gas,
reduce its #'s to 1 and yer good.

You may also fiddle with the #'s concerning dogs as well.
Our other server that runs TDM, I boosted the perk
Leadfoot so the tanks went FAST! That's fun. You can also
adjust the tank settings to not be so hard to frag as well.

Learn from my mistakes, first copy your original server.cfg
file and save it, then have fun.

I'm in the process of fiddling with this line:
// FPS (Server Frames per Second) -- I would leave this alone for now. MIGHT mess up gameplay if changed.
set sv_fps "20"

hehe, tryin to tell me to leave it alone is begging for me to mess with it.
1st trial run? Ahem, I set it to 25 on our DOME server and the only
noticeable difference was: Dogs could'nt jump out or over the bags,
pipes to attack peeps. They tried, but barked alot and then left.

When I adjusted fire settings, the molotovs were CRAZY deadly. I did
notice the flamethrowers were killer too.
