Guys,

Been a long time reader of these forums and got lots of useful info from the post so first of all many thanks to all.

Ok, the story goes like this... I have a username of cunny_funt, most people comment on it and think it is a FUN name. This evening I was given a 60 minute ban from +UB+ United Brotherhood server for having an abusive name. Now I know the guys at +UB+ pay for the server and can run as they see fit but my question is will this name cause me problems on other servers?

I know lots of admins read these forums so would anyone else here kick me for that username? Want to avoid more problems in the future.

Cheers, and keep up the good work.

Honestly, I don't give a shit if you swap the letters on my server. You can name yourself the most foul and vile things you can conjure up and I'll never care. I used to use "shitwhore" for fun. All my clanmates knew who I was haha. I had worse too, but I'm probably pushing this topic as it is.

That's how subjective this really is, though.

This is a rated M game. That means I should be able to say whatever the hell I want, and be as foul as I want, and no one should care. This is not a game for children so who gives a damn, right?

Well I got kicked from TOB server for saying "crap". Yep. CRAP. I'm 33 years old, I think I can say crap if I want to. In my mind, I can say "f***" if I want to as well (forum filters this I believe, but you know what I mean). I wasn't directing this at a player either, it was just a response to being found in a camp-out.

So what it comes down to is if the admin wants his or his clanmates' kids on his server, he can do as he pleases. As to whether that name will upset them, depends on if he's on the rag or not that day, to put it plainly. LOL.

I like the name actually. I find it to be a cunning stunt.

I'm an admin myself too and I wouldn't kick or ban for a name like cunny_funt.
If people say f*** or s**t or other curse words once in a while, then I couldn't care less. If the words come by a 100 times a minute, then that player get's a warning first, after that a kick or a ban.
But if someone would type something like "get cancer" then I don't warn, the player get's an instant kick.

"get cancer"

Have you had someone actually say that? I have to say the thought of that flashing across my screen makes me LOL.

same here
my server admins have cod rcon tool and have massive lists of bad words
and temp or perm ban for anything like that.

each server owner has the right todo as they feel
its only the isp gameservers that you really have any right to complain about.
and only then if you are paying for net from them , and its your local server.

Guys,

I really appreciate the feedback. This was not intended as a dig at +UB+ or any other server admin, they put money and effort into running their server and can admin it as they see fit. It just didn't occur to me that I would have this problem when I chose the name especially with the graphic langauge that is already present in the game itself.

I thought this might just be an over zealous admin but if, as it appears here, my name will cause me problems I'll have to think of a less risque name.

Any problem with 'devil's scrotum' :D

LOL

I like the way you think :salute:

Satan's Taint
Blasphemous Rectum (an old high school inside joke LOL)
Pungent Bush (another part of that joke)
The Red Sack

etc...

Having that name will limit the number of servers you play on. Try something like "Fried Okra" and you can play on all the servers.

LOL that's gay though.

In spirit of what the others said, I limit the servers I play on, so I can be myself in the presence of those that enjoy similar humor.

That name would get kicked on my server as well.

The name checking goes back to the BlackBart days and MOHAA (I still have vestiges of his original 'badname' list that I use with PB). He had created a name checker because there used to be a lot of kids playing on our servers...still are. We all felt that there was no need for that kind of language...we were there to play, not make cutesy statements. Admittedly, it's a bit sanctimonious, but there it is. Part of my original issue was with the "hate" names...like "N.."-killer and "J.."-killer", etc.

We don't need no stinkin' skinheads.

LMAO at Pungent Bush.

That deserves to be used as an alias.

Acid, thanks for making me laugh and brightening my day. Too many people take this waaaayyyy to seriously.

Old Dog,

You're right to ban the hate names. That shouldn't be tolerated on a server or any where else for that matter.

I do have a skinhead however, but this is down to my age and advancing baldness rather than as a political statement.:)

There's a guy in our clan called "Hue-Jorgan" There was some talk at the time he joined. Thing is that was 7 years ago so we think nothing of it. It was a little odd when his son started playing online with us. We sort of have a tradition of calling family members of existing clan members something like Mrs Pendragon for my wife. We have a guy called Tank so his younger brother is Mini-Tank, you get the idea.

When Hue's son stated playing it was obvious he should be called Little-Hue. Still a little strange when you come to think about it. Must have been an interesting conversation when Hue had to explain to is young son why he had such a strange name :hand:

L-Hue is now 13 and just sniggers when you mention it...

Oh yea back to the topic, it's not only kids that play these games, our wife's and girlfriends do too... Wife's can sensitive about that type of thing.

LOL.

You haven't met my wife. She calls me a wet p***y just to get me through that last set on the bench. The laughter has almost made me drop the bar on myself a few times when she gets creative HAHA

She's a veterinarian. With all the poo, piss and various ghastly fluids (and accompanying jokes) they toss at one another, anything goes. I'm a biologist/entomologist by education as well (and I.T. by trade...go figure...) so anything goes with me. I'm not amoral, just not....shy. I guess. Whatever.

Don't send kids to my server haha. This is a rated M game. That means 17+. Look on the cover. I'm going to talk like I'm in a NC17-rated movie, and worse. LOL.

Teamspeak actually ends up being tamer than game chatter sometimes. Sometimes. Sometimes it gets so funny I've had people crying, literally, because they were laughing so hard.

Like I said different folks different strokes. Our crowd is usually more rowdy than others, and we like it that way :)

Cheers!! Yep the rated "M" green-lights naughty, haughty, debauchery. Great concept. Enjoy!

Just to clarify...I kick with a warning (actually PB does) ... but, I check the log a few times a week, and if I see a kick for a "hate" name, I ban, locally and permanently, from my server. I will also ban repeats ... I've had a few players who will repeatedly connect back in after being kicked for a "bad name". At that point, I don't ban for the name, I ban for stupidity.

Also, you really can't control who connects to your server. I had a 10-year-old once on a Spearhead server I was running that was probably the best run-and-gun player I ever saw. Until he started whining about other players shooting him, and I warned him about excessive chatter. That was when he announced that he "hated admins" and "I'm only 10, you know".

LMAO, thats great. In my ventrilo anythings goes. Its the worst place in the world to be for children, thats why I do not have any children in my vent. In my cod2 server rated "T" I do not allow any bad language or bad names. They dont get a warning because the server messages say they will be kicked or banned. In cod 5 however it is rated "M" and if the announcer in the game is going to say f*** then why not. I wouldnt kick you for your name, its cute. If wives and girl friends are in the game and do not like the language, sorry no face to tell what gender the players are. Final thought, if its a R rated movie and someone drops the F bomb are you going to leave the theater. Good luck .

Apparently a lot of peeps that run servers forget
W @ W is rated M for mature(17+) Nobody under
17 is legally allowed to play it.

Not tryin to front anyone but come on, its a friggin
game that you can witness murder/death/kill with
dismemberment, limbs, torched bodies, blown apart
bodies, etc...And an admin is going to stress a name?

Hypocrite comes to mind. Sorry, but come on. You don't
think: Nucking Futs is hilarious?!?!

BTW Is it a euro-server? They have always been uptight.
I talked to a buddy of mine in a Nordic country, cuz I got
banned for "Snotrod" as the 1 admin said it was gross.
Mind you I did it after watchin Cars with the brats(TIC).
My buddy said most others don't get American humor :)

BTW, this may be foreign to most young peeps, but it
actually happened on a MUD that I have played since
well before any other "picture/sound" game was
EVER invented for online use.

I could understand No excessive slurring, etc...(I am Cherokee).
But if a black guy wants to call someone a "niqqer" then who
am I to stop his free speech? Now if the 2nd complained, I would
ask him to stop...I've been called plenty of names, whatever.
Sa'll good. God my wife and I call each other "fags", queefs,
retards, short-bus riders, douchebags, etc....It's fun. We've been
together for 14 years. Hell I call my kids(jokingly) crapstains.

I do not kick that quickly for swearing on my servers., maybe becuz I am Dutch I am more laidback than others. As long it is not meant in a harmfull way or pointed to one particular player I am fine with it. So flaming is a no go and you will be warned straight away.

About the name use on the servers I had one time a guy playing as Soldier88, a whole lot of Germans went barmy about the 88 thingy is seems it stands for something in the alfabet. As i asked the player for what it stood for he said 1988 the year i have been born. so it just how you see things in a perspective.

True, but American side that would equal 69??? Which happens to be
my fav/llucky # and fav something else and in a lot of my names. :)
When do we let it stop tho??? If I login to a server and 1 player happens
to be a superstitious person, and cries about my name being Danoze13,
should I be banned? How about wanker??(wanker means frequent
masterbater). How about O'sa'hinka?? It's "**** off". Why not
Mamada <---blowjob. English is english bro, like fag in America generally
or for the most part is a reference to a homosexual. My wife and I call
each other it as meaning "oddball" and the brits call cigarettes fags.
See my point? Someone somewhere will always get offended over something, tell em to lighten up.

I say again to remind all: Rated M for Mature, means 17+ only.
That means what it means, nobody under 17 years of age.
