Yo,
Just wondered if anyone knows if custom maps can be run on stock/ranked servers. I know in cod 4 you needed to be running a mod to enable custom maps but i enjoy playing cod:ww with stock weapons but would like to try some new maps with the stock game. I wonder if carantan or dawnville will make an appearance in cod 5.
I know people are holding back their maps until the redirect is fixed but i wondered if anyone could answer my question.
Cya on the battlefield.
Senior.

Hey Senior,
Already did the run around on this myself.
There really isn't a way to do it.
You can run a blank mod, but everyone loses their rank and has to start from a 1 again.
The best way to go is install a mod (Like the ACE mod, etc.) and set all the configs so that they are completely stock. That way it runs just like the vanilla game. Again, everyone will have to rank up, or you can set it up so all the weapons are open to everyone the moment they log in.
It's your call.
If you need stock ACE configs, I have those and could post them.
If you choose another mod, I'm sure there's someone here that can help.

if you wanna go stock without using a mod folder, you can grab a custom map - lets use mp_78kwai as an example.
inside the folder "mp_78kwai" there are 4 files.
localized_mp_78kwai.ff
mp_78kwai.ff
mp_78kwai.iwd
mp_78kwai_load.ff
the 3 files that end in ".ff" go to the english folder in your server and your client - here, it goes to the c:/program files/activision/call of duty - world at war location.
The iwd file has to go to the main folder where all of the game's iwd files are located. The trick here is to re-name the "mp_78kwai.iwd" file to the next number of the "iw_xx.iwd" files. With your game patched to 1.4, there are 23 iwd files named like this, with 23 being the highest numbered:
iw_23.iwd
so you rename the 78kwai iwd file to "iw_24.iwd" and put it in the main folder. On both your server and your client main folder.
It will play. You have a stock game with custom maps and your earned rank.
Only problem here - there's no redirect that I know for this kind of game, so you gotta either instruct your fellow players to get the same custom map files and install it theirselves, or you can make an archive self-extractor using winrar so others can download it and run it to install the custom map files.
And of course, when the 1.5 patch comes out, you'll have to change that # 24 iwd to the number after the patched iwd. Plus you want to run more than 1 custom map, so now you have to combine the maps' iwd files into 1 big iwd file ... what a pain !! Those of us who ran a mod before the redirect fix did this, and this game doesn't like a whole lotta files that weren't meant to be there :S
Its a heckuva lot easier to run a blank or modless mod. But you can run a mod that doesn't have a gun mod added to it and you'll get the stock weaponry and a mod with very nice settings to enhance the game a bit. Most all of the mods have settings to edit that allow you to tailor the game from run n gun all the way to tactical. Your cheating yourself by not giving it a try.
