First of all hi, I'm new around here and to running a dedicated game server, so go easy on me please :P

I was wondering what the minimum specs would need to be for a general dedicated gamer server? I'm looking to set up a few old boxen I have lying around for use as dedicated servers (and also as a file server for game patches for the games in question) so that I can find somewhere to rent and get together with friends to have LAN games (none of us have much room at home anymore to host :( ).

Game wise, I would need to see what everyone else has before deciding on a definitive list, but at a guess the following would definately be on the list, some will be via steam others will be via physical media:

Veitcong 1+2
Half Life (any of them)
Company of Heroes (and the addon)
COD4+5
TF2
Ghost Recon
Ghost recon AWF
Rainbox 6 (various different ones)
Dawn of War

Hardware wise I have at my disposal the following:

Couple of IBM xseries 330's 1u servers, one has 2x 1.2ghz P3's with 4gb ram thee 2nd is only about 2x1ghz P3's with 2gg ram. and both can fit upto 2 scsi drives (i have some 36gb ones I could use)

1x Athlon 1400 with about 1.2gb of ram
1x Dell Optiplex 800mhz P3 - this I will use for DHCP and Fileserving for patches.

At somepoint soon (hopefully before the little one comes along) I intend to have a 2nd q6600 system with about 2gb ram available as well, but can not really rely on this.

Would the systems above be able to run dedicated servers for the games listed or are they just a little too under powered? Ideally I would like to run all this with as little outlay as possible, but if I can get enough friends interested then maybe I can get them to help out kit wise as well.

Thanks in advance guys.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to run the game servers off those parts because its not like putting a big strain on it but you would be able to really only run maybe 2 at the same time if that. But you didn't mention anything about an internet connection.. Unless you have a t3 line coming to your house which is amazingly stupid in price then you wont be able to do squat from home. Don't get me wrong I have ran servers out of my house but a teamspeak server and a website isnt much on the internet connection especially when your main servers down or gets hacked:undecided... So no you really wont be able to.. Sorry.. I cant even and I have an amazing connection at my house I get between a 5-7 mb upload and 17-22 mb download.. Which is amazing for a home connection most home connections arent even close to what I have.. I can get a 8-12 upload and a 27-33 download if I wanted for 10 bucks more a month but I dont have the need of it(I had it at one point)... I already get an amazing ping to my own gameservers..
