Hi

I am experienced at setting up and running a hired server (from multiplay) but i have no idea how to go about setting up one running permanently from my home PC.

My PCs current specs are: 3Ghz Pentium, 1GigRam, and a 512k connection. I will probably upgrade my connection to 1MB or more though as i would like to run a 30 man server and i've noticed the max it allows you to set is 20?

I have set up a dedicated server before just through the Multiplayer section in CoD, but i noticed the IP changes if you shut down and then restart the server and this will be no good for my clan obviously...

Can anyone give me some clear guidlines for setting up a dedicated server running from my home PC for at least 30 people? I would like to run one custom map on the rotation, and PRM realism (i've also got no idea where to place the config file...?)

Any help from you nice people would be gratefully appreciated!

Warm regards

That 512/1Meg connection, is that the Download or upload?

Our 30 player server uses close to 2M UPLOAD bandwidth.

If you have less than 1.5M upload pipe, you will have major issues.

I am just taking a WAG here...
If your IP changes on reboot, I venture to say you have ADSL ?

If so Most ISP's limit your up load to 256 kbps some like mine go 384 kbps...to keep you from running a server from home !!

At that rate you might get 8 players....???

the Download speed of 1.5 meg is great for surfing..and such..but will not help out in the game hosting area....just my $0.02

Thanks guys that is actually very helpful to know, i understand now why everyone rents servers! as to get a 2MB upload speed would cost probably more that that of a server rental!
