Seems that EA has this new Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 ad running that shows Woods using a Wii remote to play the game. However the TV he is standing in front of is actually showing Xbox 360 footage.

EA thought it would look better by using "Broadcast quality" footage... really? no duh.
In its defense, EA told the ASA that footage of the Wii game "would not be of broadcast quality". It was pointed out that the ad did feature text stating the game was available for multiple formats in a bid to avoid confusion.
Oh yeah, that would clear it up ;)

And you wonder why no one trusts EA. I can already imagine the marketing spin we'll see with the next MOH title.

Am I missing something or would EA not have a top of the range PC sitting about somewhere that they could have used? Surely a top of the range PC beats a Wii?

I wonder if this is a borderline violation of Truth in Advertising?

It is, they where told to pull the ad in the Europe.

I wonder why a U.S. authority has not pulled it from here? Although I have not seen it broadcast here in the U.S. as of yet.

I did find a related article on this as well for the ASA's ruling.

I've seen other deals like this that suggest that the US has more of a caveat emptor attitude than europe in general. Reminds of the big controversy when Campbell's soup got busted for putting marbles in the bottom of the bowl to make it look there were more noodles and stuff in the soup. :D
