First, learn to post more descriptively. What are your server's specs? Proc? RAM? Up/Down speed (connection)? Dedicated or not?

With that type of information, we at least have somewhere to start.

Some quick suggestions: make sure you don't have anything running in the background; figure out your max rate based on your upload and download speeds; make sure that your own connection is optimized (connection speed in options).

Here is the goods.. I have a dual p3 450mhz with 1024 pc 100 ram,with a 60 gig drive and cable with 725 up and down ...sucks i need to get a new modem i thought i would have a good enough deal to run a game server ...do i or should i get bigger processers i can go to dual 8oomhz.....is my modem my only down fall...came with my service i think it is capped..that should help you figure my problem... :|

Ok, here's the deal. Even if you have a 1.5 Mbit, you'd still be limited. I'd say with that connection, and any residential connection, you're going to find that you can't host very many people. With yours, perhaps 6 - 8 tops.

For running a server, your setup seems ok. But you really need to watch the CPU usage. PC 100 RAM and a 450MHz CPU aren't going to handle a lot, so you really need to keep how much stuff you're running in the background down to a minimum. Even if you upped to 800, you'd still have a bottle neck with the PC100 RAM.

If you're looking to host a server with numbers over 10, then I strongly suggest looking into renting a server instead. Trust me, you'll save yourself some frustration if you do.

Even with the dual 450s they both run and i watch the task manager and the cpu's are not used that much... just lots of ram....
so ur saying that even with dual prosseser 800 mhz i still would have a small room and would lag.......also the with 1.5 up and down i cant run more than 10 in a room? :x( I sell computers for living but never done a server so if i have to start over i will buy bigger prosesser and mobo with lots of ram to make the server i want i even have a sever cabnet bout 6 foot tall ....nice start I just want to run the sever so me and my friends can play on same server ....u know how many there are...Hard to find friends in other servers
