View Full Version : Key Already in Use

This is a little strange. Maybe one of you guys know what causes it.
I can get online and play multiplayer just fine. But when I try to join a co-op Nazi Zombie server hosted online I get a message that says: "This key is already in use on another computer."
When I start the co-op online game it will go through from loading to syncing to Ready, but my friend's end just hangs on the loading screen. He doesn't get the same message I do, but can't join the game. Eventually the game craps out and says there aren't enough players to play.
This is a legit key, I own the game and have the physical disk.

Have exactly the same issue yesterday ~20:00 GMT...
after that I cannot connect to any MP server or had error "cannot connect to online service".
I had this issue for ~2h after that accident ...

I've seen that too. I'm hope'n more info on COOP surfaces soon, as tried both directions several times with various friends and had lots of problems...only got it to work twice and never with me as host. Seems pretty flakey over the WAN, maybe it's mainly intended to be a LAN feature?

Sounds like it's more of a global issue and not just me then. Which is good. We'll probably see another 300MB patch come out to fix this and the sound issue. The weapons still need further tweaking too.

Hopefully much smaller....that one was huge in order to fix various map glitches. ;-)

Okay, I'm still seeing this issue. It might not be me but I want to throw this out there anyway. With my firewall OFF I tried to join a Nazi Co-op ONLINE Server my friend started and I get the "This key is already in use on another computer" message. If I start the ONLINE Server, it will sync then show as Ready, but HE can't join. His doesn't say anything, just freezes at the Loading screen for a while and finally just craps out saying no enough people joined to play.
However, I CAN join an ONLINE Nazi Co-op server by choosing one from a list on the on public server list. And I can play SP and regular MP just fine. I'm going to test this with someone else tonight to see if maybe it was something on my other friend's end.
ALL of us have the game. These are not cracked games. I know that's a common suspicion with issues like this.

I tried again last night with the friend I was having the issue with in the first place and another buddy. I get the message with the first guy and it works fine with the second. So, whatever is going on it's on his end, not mine. Since mine is working I'm not going to worry about it.
I'm taking him at his word that he actually bought the game. He said he went up to Game Stop to buy it. He hasn't been over to my place since I got the game so there is no way he could have snagged my key. I'm going to find out for sure if he actually bought the game. If not I'll just buy him a damn copy myself.

UPDATE:
It ended up being my friend's router firewall. Doh!
All is well now....

Mmm...doesn't make a lot of sense that a "key is already in use" would be caused by a firewall. Unless the client is somehow reporting that in lieu of something more appropriate.
Plus when this happened for me, we tried turning off firewalls on both sides with no help. Haven't had a chance to try this again...maybe over the upcoming weekend.

No, it doesn't make sense at all. But then again, this game has a good half dozen issues that need addressed. 2 years to make and it feels like a rush job.
