colored names in game??

I'm noticing a few players with their names in color, how can this be done?

Add a ^ and a certain number before the name, then it will change into that colour.

e.g. ^1Xylozi

You can use one colour per letter, so you could end up with something like this:

e.g. ^1This ^3is ^1a ^4test ^3mess^4age

This would come out like this ingame:

This is a test message

The colour tags can be used in names, chat and most text based stuff in COD:WW.

not sure but i dont think it works like that in cod:waw as you cann't have an in game name you can only use the profile you create.
there is a command you can use but i think it changes more than just ur name colour.

what I'm seeing is the names over the players heads have color. i didnt' think the ^# would do that

Um, I know that the colours work for messages and such, but I can't test the names, perhaps you put the tags in before making the profile?

I think there are one or two players using this as an exploit. Setting your name as green confuses everyone into thinking you are friendly instead of enemy and likewise everyone fires at you if your name is in red. Anyone else come across this?

i've seen 3 on my server and I haven't banned them yet. I was debating whether they are exploits or hacks of some sort. But after thinking about it for a while, I'll warn then ban.

I've seen several players using colored names that confuse both teams.

Players who bought the deluxe collectors edition of the game have the ability to have colored clan tags but the players we're discussing here have their names colored.
All that I have seen have empty brackets at the start of their name. They look something like this []Glitcher . The ones I have warned and who complied with losing the color have simply added a letter inside the brackets , [A]Glitcher , and it appears normal.
I will continue to kick/ban anyone I see with this exploit.

Not sure if you are talking about the colored names that appear in game on yourside. those are squads that people are linked to in game. If it is the latter the scripting then it is not a good thing and we ban on our server for it as well.

no, what we are referring to is a bit different. certain people have found out how to add different colors to their names.. the names over their head while in game. i believe most of us think it's an exploit.

We've been warning and kicking for it on our server. Non-compliance results in a ban. We see it as an exploit since it overrides the in-game color to identify friendly, squad and enemy.

I wish there were a way to disable this server side, but yes it is an exploit. I warned a couple of the guys that someone mentioned and they all say its their clan tags. :rolleyes:

if they have the [] in their name, I believe it is an exploit. warn again, then ban.

Most of those I encounter with the colored names tend to be smartasses when asked to change their color. We now have an ingame server message that warns about using them.

I have been Warning kicking and baning them as well.
One guys on the server ask how he does that.I told him it was an exploit cheat.The guys with the green color said no it comes with the collectors edition and you can change it to any color :D:D well I kicked him and he never came back.

Collector's edition is supposed to have a colored clan tag. But tag only, not the name. I have the collector's edition, and it's not working yet. There's lots of threads on cod.com about it, so he's lying :p

Already banned, and yes one of them mouthed off. Saved me from having to warn them twice, and I just banned both of them. :hand:

Isn't it just as easy just to remove the color commands from your server.cfg file? then no colored names or messages can be used, but this might solve the problem...

i found someone on our server tonight with this but their name was in blue (go figure), i found a post about using the following pb cmd

PB_SV_CVAR clanName EXCLUDE ^^

but havent tried it yet - am trying to suss out what its doing before i add it

anyone else come across this? :undecided

ok - after some more digging - looks like the ^^ is the equivilent to the single ^colour in previous versions of cod.

so players changin their name using /clanName ^^22 (etc) in the console - which i've tested - soon after I got a PB kick - huzaah
