I would really like to hear from the CoD4 guys and gals who where or are hesitant to buy CoDWW.
Pros, cons, likes or dislikes.
While I only had a few hours to play the game last week before leaving for work, it met most of my expectations and am looking forward to playing some MP when I get home.
So spill the beans, let all those WWII haters know how the game plays.

Love the gameplay so far but can't run a server due to technical problems so to me (as a server admin) its only half a game.

I like it alot more than cod4 and cod4 owned my soul since 1st day of release. They did make alot of performace improvements since the beta and had a batch ready on day 1. Sadly I haven't had much time to play yet but the maps really drag you into the WWII era with the details and ambiant sounds (snapping twigs or the russel of a bush makes you turn expecting to drop a baddie ready with a backstab). Had a round of Co-Op with a teammate and it can get pretty intense. Honestly I haven't come across any cons just yet. I've always been a WWII fan (all hail MoHAA) and it just seems to be more of a fight for your life with the weapons from that era than the guns used in CoD4. HIGHLY recommended.

Same here. I can't make it run on my 2003 box.
I've been spending all my time with that and work and have had 2 hours to play SP and no MP.

Have you tried running the short cut to codww in compatibility mode (XP)?
I got home late last night (1PM-ish) and have some work to do. but after that, I hope to have some time for testing. I think I have a 2003 box in my datacenter (OK wife calls it my garage...damn her). I'll give it a go hopefully later today.
Well, I think that should be given a time to this game. I always preferred CoDUO style, but I quite like CoD4.
For me everything will depend from the competitive multiplayer side of the game.

My other gripes aside, the spawning is just gawd-awful. I shoot a guy just to have him respawn behind me and knife me .... O_o? It doesn't matter what map either. I thought the larger maps would not have this spawn behind 5 enemies problem, but it does. Sometimes my gun isn't even raised and I'm dead.

Really enjoying the game so far. Gameplay feels better than CoD4, and the atmosphere (even in multiplayer) feels heaps better.
6FR is running 2 servers, War and TDM.

Yes I have. I may know what the problem is but can't confirm. It's a P3 box.
Does the exe check these things when starting the application?

So far we're having a blast with this game. We're running our server on HC S&D with no perks or tanks. It's just man vs man and no silly stuff. It feels like COD again. The spawn points on Dome suck, but other than that all the other maps lend themselves well to S&D. The co-op mode is a lot of fun also. Stop by and check it out.

This game blows COD4 out of the water with it's ambiance and detail. The immersive quality of the game is top notch. Weapons are great and the online competition is intense. Our clan is currently running a hardcore mixed map/gametype(war, dom, sab, ctf and tdm) 32 slot server and it's quite full in the evenings and on the weekends. The mixed rotation gives us 52 different combinations of map and gametype for a lot of variety, another good quality of this game. Check us out sometime:

I am really impressed overall of the Game with the beta i was impressed also but i did not have that overwhelming feeling that i had with Call of duty 4 in the beginning i was like wow and whoohoo on cod4, the MP Beta for world at war impressed me with the new options but it felt like Call of Duty4 in a ww2 skin which i really like ( i for one was really disappointed with Call of Duty4 not having the classic Capture the flag game type and i am glad in World at war that is back) .
Then i got the full game i got the collectors edition nice shiny metal case the Call of Duty World at war canteen fg42 in my load out :D on the box it says colored clan tag but i haven't figured out yet how that works i am level 33 right no but no color in my tag ?.
The Single player is short but really blow me of my chair and i don't know about you all but with any Call of Duty Single player its not the time it takes but the level of difficulty you play it on short or long playing on veteran mode is always a prestige.
:The Coop what can i say genius finally a developer hears our cry this makes the game. playing the Single player with your friends Online or on a LAN
and the zombie mode is another bonus what makes the Coop more interesting yes iv played it a lot we 4 teammates of my clan came to lever 17 last night scary shit lol:D
The multilayer is everything i expected a mixture between Call of duty United offense Call of duty 2 and call of duty 4 the best of 3 worlds the migrated into this game, and like i mentioned before because this game has my game type CTF out of the box to me this is already a better game then call of duty 4..:p
i really like the MP think it well putt together (they had a good base to begin with Cod4 engine is really proving itself here make s oyu wonder what IW is going to bring next year) its hard to create good maps for jungle and high and low ground areas but i think Treyarch did a good job
So i am really stoked about World at war having a real blast with the multi player and my favorite Game type feels like the old Call of duty 2 days again sometimes like the old Mohaa days:rolleyes: but as a Server Admin i am also a little disappointed still no good working auto balance and spawn protect out of the box i hope these things will be added later in a patch.other then that i can really say i am hooked on call of duty world at war ..

I have so many technical issues with it, I'm really frustrated. But when I do get to play for a couple of maps before it crashes or freezes, I think it might be the best MP in quite a long time. As some have said, it blows COD4 away-a very good game.

I like it so far.Good game play and the guns are fine too.
One thing sticks out the new spawn system is all screwed up.Worst game I have ever played spawning wise. You either spawn behind the enemy or right in front of them, most of the time.If you find a good spot it wont last long because of the spawning. So you have to keep moving nightmare for snipers.
I like fast moving games run and gun.But constandly running gets old real fast.

Play wise I agree. The spawning is a joke. Love everything else so far. I thought it was just my bad luck with the spawns. Seems you get spawn killed 25% of the time.

CoD4:MW took the Call of Duty franchise to a new level. The gameplay and immersiveness just blew away what CoD2 had to offer. CoD:WW has taken us to even new levels above what CoD4:MW had to offer. When I first heard we were going back to WWII I was a bit skeptical that it would be an updated CoD2. I could not have been more wrong. Nor, does it feel like an updated CoD4. CoD:WW stands on its own merits, not on the shoulders of CoD4.
We took Dome out of the rotation right away because it too small of a map. There is little or no explosive killing in the first few seconds of any round (nades, bazookas, etc.) though I am sure someone will find a way to do it. But, that was a sore spot for me in CoD4 was the small(ish) maps.
Sprint is well implemented. It doesn't feel as fast as CoD4. I can sprint across a street or to another building but not halfway across a map. The maps in CoD4 weren't that small physically, but sprint made them feel smaller than they were.
The tanks are not the overpowering beasts that I thought they might be. Yes, they can do a lot of damage but they are also vulnerable. A little teamwork with fellow pyromaniacs and other tanks can take them out fairly quickly - especially when attacking the rear of the tank.
The perks feel good, the weapons feel good. The maps are varied and unique. The environment and ambient sounds are incredible. The blood and the language in the game gives a truly 'gritty' feel. There is enough watered down multimedia these days so I applaud Treyarch (and whomever else) for eschewing the candy coating for an accurate portrayal of WWII in the Pacific. I mean, if we had such a thing as 'smell-o-vision' then we would no doubt be inundated with the smells of war: death, smoke, blood, feces, unbathed humans . . .
The cons for me are the weapons fired close to me sound tinny, though the weapons fired farther away sound spot on. I can't really think of any other cons other than we (the server admins) need more dev support. I can't really find anything wrong other than that because, as admins, we can tweak an amazing amount of the game without unranking the server.
~ Disclaimer
A lot remains to be seen because there aren't many max level players yet. This should be interesting to follow up and see how we feel in a few weeks when everyone is max level, knows the maps and has all of their perks at their disposal.

Its not bad. I like that they went back to WW2. The camping and other issues I had with Cod2 are still in place. Im looking to mod the server to give it a faster feel. Other than that, I think it should be a big success.

Have been playing now some HQ, Twar and CTF.
I like the layout of the maps, courtyard and dome are removed from the server it's rotation, to small spray and prey maps.
Makin was already the map i didn't like in the (pre)beta and is going to be removed soon.
The rest of the map, I really like the layouts off them, lots of options, yes lots of camping places to, but even more options to handle those bastards, so there are less sweet-spots for camping then routes to attack them from.
That makes that you can out-rule the campers in lots of ways/routes/manners.
And that I think is a real +pro for the game.
The spawning system needs some tweaks, some maps you spawn at the exact same moment on the same spawning area, so there needs some work to be done.
The HC system (yes we only play hard core mode) on the one side it's good to have the (most) Dvars for free and be able to set them like you want.
The other side, health and some other stuff need lots of tweaking, the old health setting of 30% is to low, read some about it, and think between 35 and 45 will be the good setting, but didn't want to start tweaking to soon.
Why not tweaking to soon, you need to see lots of killcam actions to make up your mind, and that is 30 is to low, but lucky a free setting.
About the missing gametype "Base assault" yes i mis that one, cause there are tanks.
I also mis the Jeeps, those should have been in some of the tank maps, cause you can't get in the tank with a flag on ctf, but a Jeep to jump in would seriously change the game to the better side.
Besides that, The Real BAS... would have need the Jeeps.
Overall comparing cod4 to 5/WW, I'm happy to be back in the WWII scene, this gives much more THRILL in the most gametypes.
The maps have a better lay-out.
The game runs very easy on my rig, 2 year old opty 185 @ 3G 2Gmem and 2 8800 gt's, and better then cod4 for sure, all maxed out.
The con:
no jeeps
perks being there
the ranking system
and a missing classic mode to get out of that ....... ranking stuff.
I know lots of players like the "Ranking system" , but on the other hand, tons of day 1 vCOD players would really love to see a game without ranking, perks and other BS, and me and my clan are one of those.l
Over all opinion,
I like the game,
But as soon as the linux bins (on a temp windblows server of our host now) are available and the fs_game stuff is running like it should (can only say real stuff about that when the bins are out) WW will be running modded on our servers so the classic mode will be reached as fas as we can.
And a good Single Bolt Action Rifle server asap rather yesterday
AWE5 PowerRank can handle that the best as far as I've read until now.
Game on.
This game rocks and will last longer for us than the fun of cod4 on pubs did, hope that the fun we had with cod4 and wars will also double the same way as I look at WW pub gaming now.

Yes it would be nice if there was some kind of "classic" mode where perks/attachments were removed and nationalities got their respective weapon loadouts.
I still don't understand why there is only one kind of frag grenade is MP, yet SP has the other varieties ...

I'm not a huge fan of the ranking, either...I saw a lot of ridiculous gaming with BF2, then CoD4, with little toads running around just gaining rank...for some reason...testosterone substitute, I suppose...while screwing up gameplay for others. I hope that won't be prevalent with W@W servers. I'm leaving my hardcore server at ranking, but as soon as I can, I'll be changing it to non-ranked.
I think it's terrific that we're back to WWII...I felt that BF2 and CoD4 bordered on the absurd. I would like to see larger-scale tank maps.
All together, though (spawn problems aside), I like the game, the map layouts, the graphics, and the general gameplay.

I agree with old dog on most of what he said. The lack of linux files is something I am angry about, and those spawn points.
I have a fast paced tdm server, and as soon as I can I will have a tactical realism server. Both game styles are well suited to this game, and it has something for everyone.
I also love the co-op and thought it was a great addition to the game.

Overall I like the game. The weapons have a good feel, level design is top notch, animation is well done. The sound is mediocre though.
But one major gripe - they completely blew it on the weapons damage model. A bolt action rifle kill requires 2 shots to the torso, making bolt action rifles nearly useless (the spray 'n' prayers or semi-auto riflers will drop you during your 2-second reload cycle). That is *unless* you have a scope on the rifle, then it's a 1 shot kill. That's right, the same gun hitting at the same place on the enemy does more damage with a scope than with iron sights. So apparently in WWII they had these magic scopes that powered-up the bullets and increased their damage.
This in my mind is a disgraceful design flaw. Any game designer who would stray this far from reality and basic laws of physics, presumably just to make sniping more "fun" for the noobs, at the expense of the hardcore gamers who prefer the skill requirements of iron sights, should be banned from the gaming industry for life.

Hi Everyone,
I have just started playing this game and have been having a blast. Single player is what you expect from the call of duty game series. Co-op is very fun as well, now with 4 player co-op it has taking this type of game play to the next level. Multi- player game play is packed with a good number of game types and excellent maps to help make it more of a challenge. I noticed some issues that need to be addressed and hope that the upcoming updates take care of the problems player are having. I like the ranking system but do find it is very easy to rank in this game. This should be tweaked a little to prevent everyone from going through the ranking system so quickly.
P.S. - Come try my server.

Likes:
Love the weapons, perks, and custom classes.
Map detail is great and the variety of terrain/environment mixes things up nicely.
Single player was very enjoyable (and I often don't bother finishing the single player side due to them mostly feeling like a bug-hunt slugfest). This game created a very interesting and immersive SP environment.
Dislikes:
The MP spawn logic is the worst I have ever seen. Seems like most of the time the victim respawns close by and in sight of the person who just killed them. It is so bad I actually plan on it happening when I kill or am killed. Now if they turned this into an anti-camper feature by only teleporting the victim close when the killer has been in the same general location for a long time....that would be another story :-)
The automatic weapons seem too accurate at distance. Being able to take someone out with a thompson or mp40 from halfway across the map doesn't seem right. It also seems to make run-and-gun an unfortunately predominant style of play. (hence I find myself hanging out at well-policed "tactical servers" that prohibit "run-and-gun").
Overall, I love the game. The things I don't like don't get in the way of having a good time and I am sure will be fixed if enough people complain about them. If not by the developers, then maybe by a modder.
This is a must-have MP game....and I haven't even tried the coop yet...which I am sure will also be a blast.
