I have CoD WaW Full game on my dedicated server, but i cant start server over remote... Same problem like this: http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16038
I have use that command line but i cant start it. Allways says tath game can not be run over the remote desktop connection.

Hi,
I had the same problem. I'm also running cod5 beta servers on same machine, but im getting remote desktop error with cod5.
However, i bypassed that error using vnc.
Install vnc and run it from vnc console you wont get that message.
But then there is another error "error during initialization, unhandled exception caught". I updated directx just a few days ago...
Any ideas?

can you post your command line and server.cfg? remember to take out any passwords

YES!!, that is what I want to post here too. I also have the same problem.
The set dedicated 2 doesnt work anymore !! need the fixed!!
My server start parameter
CoDWaWmp.exe +set dedicated 2 +set net_port 28960 +exec 55_server.cfg +map_rotate
The cofig works fine with the beta version, something is really wrong here guys, I don't want to use VNC since it doesn't support admin session.

Server will not start with +set dedicated 1 or 2. If you launch the game and use the menus etc for a dedicated server it works.

I know firedaemon can be used to work around this problem, but it's not the solution. I can run CoD4 server just fine with my old system, I don't think it is necessary enough to make me change my current way of maintaing my server.
Activision needed to fix this!!

We are treading a very thin line here, while I know there are torrents out there please no links and if we can no BT talk, We do not condone piracy here.
While I know the torrents will help GSPs get the iwd files up and ready to roll on day one DO NOT TALK ABOUT CLIENT or SP related issues, not that you guys would.
with that said, any help we can provide before the retail release on Nov 11th will help everyone out on day one.
AGAIN DO NOT POST ANY TORRENT LINKS. (not that anyone has just a future warning).
I suspect the game will not run because the master servers are authenticating them. - just my guess.

I hope not, that would mean servers wouldn't start anytime the master server goes down.
I noticed if you use +sets dedicated 2 it starts but it loads into the game first then drops back to the dedicated console window.

I can see problems here unless they plan to release a set of server files..which would be nice but very unlikely.

it appears to open full screen to authenticate the mp.exe before starting the dedicated server.
Why they do this, i don't know. I also don't know if there is a switch we don't know about yet or if the linux bits will solve this problem when running a dedicated server.
With a legit key, I'm able to run a ded. box via windows without any problem. after dedicated window launches, I can check it via server status command.
-update ** it should be noted that I did not have any time to reallly check things out with this. I was home less then a day before having to prep for my next business trip.
Also last time I checked, there was no dedicated servers running in the in game browser.
However I can't do anything until I'm back on Wed. I'll be in Vegas over the next few days......

I can see problems here unless they plan to release a set of server files..which would be nice but very unlikely.
Copy the files from the DVD into the server and then you can start it without the key... But you can also install it from the DVD with the key and then run the server + use the key for your client computer. But you cannot use the key on two or more clients at the same time...
Client and server is not the same - server does not use the key.

FTP the files (exclude the videofiles) to the remote server, use your favorite remote control (VNC, RDP, LogMeIn)... and setup server config and startup variables... Come in mind that aparently you need a GFX card that support alpha blend... My regular server did not handle this server just because the gfx card was not good enough, so I had to set up another one.
This is my expreience with the final release server.
I am not sure how I got it started but I did... I do not dare stopping it yet, until I get the info on how to properly start it in console mode.

why would you need to use a key when installing a cod game server... the files for the game server are located in CDROM:\Setup\Data ...... copy and run.

Probably a dumb question but how do you apply the inevitable patches if you don't have the game installed? I've come across this problem with previous releases and my only way to overcome this is to do a full install with my retail key. If I don't do it that way the patches can't detect that the game is installed and so won't update.

Many thanks for taking time to respond.
That makes perfect sence to me and would be my preferred way to proceed. Do the touched files normally appear quickly after the official patches and is the a reliable, regular source you can recommend to pick these up?

its also easy to do yourself
on your home pc when you install a updated patch
go to say cod 5 folder open up main and sort by date this will show what files have been updated with the patch etc same in all folders
i often do it this way myself

Just an FYI guys, we will be posting retail out of the box files names, file sizes and CRC check sums of the files.
And just like we did with CoD4 (see http://www.fpsadmin.com/reports/cod) we will post touched files change log at each patch iteration.
This way you the server admin will know what files need to be uploaded to your dedicated servers.
** however if there is a day one patch, I will not be able to get that up because I'm in Vegas until the 12th with work. If there is a day one patch then I will get any changes up as soon as I get home and then forward as other new patches are released.

Command lines for the official binaries will be the same as for demo and will work just like it did for demo. If it is not working, then the version that you are trying it on may be old or not valid.

Still only works on a directx capable videocard (which servers mostly don't have of course)

You can bypass that problem using firedaemon. Problem is it demands a direct x capable card atm.

You can keep saying there is no problem, but there is. Probably you have a video card on your system which allows you to run it. Decent servers can not run it at this moment. The fact that gameservers.com has a newer build says enough.

I am not commenting on older versions - just saying that the version being tested are not exhibiting the issues. Our video cards are minimal at best.

Good, any ETA on the release of the working files then? It's damn sad to ship a game with a malfunctioning dedicated server.
ask gameservers.com they get em before anyone else so if they dont release on time it aint cos they aint sorted it
its just they not that bothered i mean come on this must have been tested how the hell they mess it up?

Its sad to see developers of games trying to control the game server business. Make it a fair playing field and let the customers decide geez, instead of giving certain companies an advantage over others.

in cod4, i had this problem, but I found the patch looked for one of the video files located in the
CoD4\main\video folder. I believe most of the time it was either one of the villages_assault , village_defend or zakhaev_escape.bik files. what i did was create a new folder, put those files in that new folder in somewhat of the same structure, ie. i created a CoDPATCH\main\video folder, ran the patch, directed it to that that CoDPATCH folder and after it patched, just copy/paste all the new files to your main cod4 directory. Make sense?
hopefully cod5 will be easier to patch.

He, just a lucky guess. If GameServers are patched, and "others" have the updates, then why do not everybody have them?
One would figure the more servers the better on release day, not just a "select" few. :salute:
The beta Exes worked, the retail ones don't, would seem like deliberate crippling to me, either that or a cockup of ginormous propertions. Fancy putting a game in a box where the mp.exe CANNOT be run as a dedi server. :rolleyes:
Be interesting to see "whose" servers are up at release time i guess.
im sorry i have to agree with Kinsman here i think its on purpose so gamservers have there way why else would they have the fixed files but everyone else hasnt cant be any other reason and its the only thing that makes sense how can u go from the beta exe working to one that doesnt surely things are supposed to improve from the beta?

hey, i noticed you said something about unhandeled exception caught.
well if you go onto properties of your game rootary system documents (their should be one saying just cod5) go to exceptions and unselect the exceptions which are not needed, this may prevent future unhandeled exceptions
