I am a big mohaa fan, and i love being able to custumize it. New maps, skins, scopes, etc...
I bought CoD finished single player and started playing multiplayer. I liked it, but i want a custom scope... like i play with on mohaa. So i make my scope, put it in a .pk3 file and try to fire up CoD multiplayer.... can't get on server. OK.... so i go and (first backing up) edit the .tga in the CoD .pk3 file... can't get on server.
Cudo's for the anti-cheat for activision, BUT and i repeat BUT no mods!!!!????? That sucks!
I hate cheaters too, and i only play on a few select mohaa sites that keep cheaters banned.... but I want to be able to use custom skins and scopes, and compases, and...... everything that made mohaa great.
So is there a way to make a mod that will work?
CoD is ok out of the box... but man, where would Mohaa be (for example) without ckr? (and yes i know that is server side, but you get my point)

I think everyone is having teething pains with the cfg files that everyone has left the default sv_pure to ON
have you tried your server on a non-pur server? if your having problems finding one. I will disable pure on our second server so people like you can test your mods to see if they work.

i hope thet keep the dang sniper rifle just how it is, if not you will end up with every harry out there using a sniper rifle just for the reasons that a. it's simple to aim, and b. it's a one hit one kill weapon. if we took a vote.... i would vote to remove them all together. snipers are okay if there is one or two per ten guys... but when six outta ten got em it's lame. just my opinion, and i know others are gonna wanna cap me for it. i also like the fact that everyone has the same skins. it keeps it a little more vintage tp the war, we are all on the same team, dress like it. i could stand to see more blood though.http://members.lycos.co.uk/squirrelnutz/sparkylamp/sparkylamp2.jpg

Thanks rudedog.... i found some servers with it off. I was worried for a bit...... :clap:
The sniper is powerful First_Dead, but it is ballanced in gameplay... smg vs sniper at 10 paces... can you say sniper in a blender? :cry:
I am pure sniper... clan leader of UsD... Unseen sniper Division! hehe 8-)
Back to moding... this game is remarkably like mohaa in it's files... guess it is that quake engine. It is a bit tricky finding the files to modify the scope... One is reticle_q,tga (it is the limiter for the size of the apature and they put it in the ui/assets foler...). ... does anyone know which .tga files control the actuall cross hairs??? i can't seem to find those.......

thanks, but those seem to control the grenade... and crosshairs, i am trying to modify only the sniper scope view... i can control part of the view when i zoom in, but can't find the files that control the actual plus on the springfield and open T on the kar98....
hey not so rudedog, both your servers have sv_pure set at 1... can you turn one of those to 0 please, like you offered too... seems like everyone is turning sV_pure on again!
Hey get a hint guys, sv_pure is not going to stop those fricking walhackers, they modify their open gl files!!!!! and it is just making it heck on people wan'ting to do good mods for the game!!!! a well moderated server, and spectating is always going to be the best way to eject cheaters!!!!!!!!

IW posted an easy way of creating a mod and using it on a server with sv_pure 1
I will post the link here instead of the whole thread.
To sum, make the mod correctly and throw it in a folder called (anything) MyMod was used by IW for example.
Then add the flag +set fs_game MyMod and it will run the mod without sending the moded pak file to the clients that have downloads truned on.

If i read what the infinity ward guy said correctly ... this is only applicable on server side... it won't do me any good (being a client side mod).

Client side MOD?
As in - giving you something extra that everyone else on the server does not have?
I think I misunderstood what you said, please explain.

if the client (any player) has any pk3 file in his main folder that is not stock (what came when you instaled CoD) it will kick you... the thing he posted (from iw) is only a way to run a server with sv_pure 1 set.
for example... i play with Men of God (MOG) a lot on medal of honor. They run custom maps (which are pk3 files). Now if they were to have a CoD site and use custom maps, i would dl the maps (pk3 files) and put them in my CoD/main folder. Now, i cannot go on any server that has sv_pure set to 1 (sv_pure 1).
This is not in any way modding my computer, but i am a sniper, and i like to make my own reticule (replacing the + for the springfiled and the T for the kar98). If i make my own reticule, i make it as a pk3 file (all it does is change the shape of the reticle.tga file in CoD). Now i cannot play on any sv_pure servers. This is not cheating.
Some other examples are compas changes, blood mods, etc...
These are not cheats... there are cheats out there that turn off the fog, let you see through walls, give opponets bright skins etc... but they are making these mods in CoD and they work even if sv_pure is on!!! sv_pure is not stopping cheaters, it is just making good moders like me, crow king, and sitting duck frustrated... or at least those of us who use their mods.... (disclamer i am no-where in the league of the others i listed, i am beginning modder).
I love customizing my games, making my own crosshairs, compases and sniper scopes. Most people do... very few games come out of the box perfect... as a matter of fact the only game i have not wanted to mod so far is Americas Army 2.0... i like the sniper scope on there....

IW's post was more for the people running servers that were not sv_pure, and had MOD'd the original pak files to make there mod, he stated that if both client and server had downloads turned on, the client would then DL the modded pak file -which in turn would overwrite there default pak file. Making it then impossible for people to join servers with sv_pure.
If you MOD your own pak file, be it for changing a site for a rifle or one pixel placement in anything, you would then not be able to join servers w/sv_pure enabled. Because your pak files would not match the servers pak file.
This was what I was getting at. So unless you care to make a mod that has - say custom skins, compasses etc.. call the pak file something other then the files that came with the game, ensure no cfg's or any other docs are not named the same as anything in the default pak files, then publish it for admins to put that on their servers ??? I don't have any other anwser for you.
