When I first start the game, after install and entering key, it attempts to retrieve accounts information, then it gives an Online Service Error saying "Can not connect to Online Service". Have tried reinstalling 3 times, tried turning all firewalls off yet no change. Initially i got the d3dx9_37.dll error... updated directx and that was that. If anyone has any ideas or has even seen this one before please let me know.

Thanks
Elv

see this post from the front page: http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15932

You just need to download the missing dll and place it into your system32 folder.

Are you using an antivirus program like Norton? These can be game killers. If os, diable it and try connecting.

If that isn't it then check the callofduty.com PC forum. A lot of folks are complaining certain brands of home routers are blocking the game connection considering it a flood attack when trying to connect.

starjax, i was havin that error but fixed it before the post, thanks though.

MoGElijah, i am using norton but turned off it's firewall and all auto protect settings.. however i'm not sure what the process name is to completely shutdown norton. thanks for the tip about the possible router issue, at the very least it gives a different route to explore.

Once I disabled AVG Anti Virus, and updated my Nvidia drivers, the black screens and the blue screen I got once stopped.

Make sure to also update your DirectX Drivers by running this program linked by someone else in the forums: "Just getting the dll didn't work for me, running the directX websetup that updates your DirectX did work.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en"

These 3 things stopped the problems on my Vista 32 system.

I know it's not the directx, already had that issue and resolved it by updating. Before updating the game wouldnt even run. Now it runs but it wont let me create an account, it just tries to retrieve account info then says the online service error part. Pretty sure it's not the nvidia drivers, just updated them about a week ago. So I guess that only leaves the anti-virus not being fully disabled even though the firewall and auto protect settings we switched to off, or the router... Thanks The_Humungus. Oh yea, i'm on xp.

Are you sure you ran through the installer and entered the key? I got this error when doing a copy paste of the install directory and trying to go online like that. Uninstall it, delete the registry keys for it and reinstall it. Also try getting the installer from another source.

i ran the installer again and entered the same key which was accepted. the only thing i did different on this uninstall/re-install was cleared the regs (pretty sure i did, used cc cleaner). On first try after latest re-install it gave same internet service error, second try it gave some other random error message then promptly closed. Now it's back to internet service error. Was hoping to avoid this part but am going to try the dl from a different source.
