Not sure if its us or just because its a beta, but everytime we get our twar server full within a few rounds the box will crash. The last error was this

Error - G_Spawn No free entitie found

Server Shutdown

-------------------------------------

The first time it crashed when i logged into RD it just gave the "This program has encountered a error and needs to close" message. I lowered the slots from 32 to 30 and about 5 rounds after it got full BAM crashed with the top error.

Its pretty aggravating to get your server full twice in a row and it crash. Im hoping this is just a problem with the BETA and they work it out in the retail version.

I just wanted to see if anyone else is having random server crashed when full.

Ours too... we have 24 slots at Gameservers. It was full since launch (just before 1300 PST) then it crashed with the same error at about 1930 PST.

I remember making my first map for CoD4 you had to be careful of the brush entities. 1024 would crash the server and 800 would give lag. Tonight I was getting rubber band lag on my CTF demo server but no crashes. These G_Spawn errors are usually introduced when SP elements are present in an MP map.

Not sure if this could be a source of your problems but I am suspect since the symptoms appear the same as when CoD4 first came out.

Hi all,

I am running into the same problem, and haven't figured out how to avoid this problem :( - I posted a bugs thread on callofduty.com here (http://www.callofduty.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=40048), but it kind of gets lost between all the noob posts there.

Any help or Idea what could cause this would be great thanks.

same kind of crash involving the entity on a 26 slot tdm hardcore at gs.

i wasnt on, too busy sorting out downloads and keys and poring over the cfg posted here.

i'll track errors. man was it busy till 10 or so when the "teeners" had to go to bed :)

A script which automatically restarts the server if the response over rcon fails would be very helpful. Does somebody has such a tool?

Otherwise I may consider writing a quick and dirty one xD

Yeah where getting the same problem, we tought it might have something to do with the Ram on the server? might it be getting full? we had 2 servers up now where trying with 1

Nothing to do with RAM. The number of entities is hardcoded into the engine.

Maybe Treyarch has an entity leak. They may be spawning entities into maps all the time, such as the gibs. Maybe they have one that they have forgotten to fully destroy after use to free up the entity slot. You wouldn't notice until the number of entities reaches the limit, then CRASH...

What gametypes are you guys running? I have a 24 slot S&D server that has been running fine since late yesterday afternoon. It doesn't stay completely full, but averages somewhere between 14-24 players consistently.
I do however have a 32 player WAR server that filled up for the first time today and it crashed while full.

scriptUsage

The above command will list variable and entity usage if run on the server. If you run it at the start of a map, then run it again at the end of a map, you may be able to see a massive change in the number of entities the map has running (possibly indicating a leak).

Be aware though that if you try that directly ON the server (in the console window) that it will LAG the people on the server like a mother! :D

dont know if its related or not but my server has been up for 1 hour no crash

before it was crashing every 10 mins or so

I have the hunkmegs cvar in my config.cfg file. Still crashes when full on WAR.

I got it again today.... same error. We are running DOM.

I posted in the GS Forums last night after the first crash and there was a response from staff that said they are tracking issues like that. My only complaint is that the server doesn't restart after the crash... Who knows how long I was down today.

It doesn't restart because it doesn't actually shut down. I've had it once and all it took was a map_rotate to get it running again.

map rotate in the actually game window? in game we all get kicked and cannot rejoin.

Hahaha. You actually used to be able to do that in CoD. But no, via remote rcon would work though. The server IS still running, it just isn't running a map. ;)

Worm.. you sure the server is still running? We've gotten this error a number of times when the server is close to capacity. In each case the executable is running, but in console on the box I type in "status" and get "Server not running".

I imagine since "status" didn't work, nothing will.

EDIT: Once again, listen to the dev.. yeah, worm is correct.. it still said "server not running" when I issued a "status", but map_rotate did work. The bad thing is that it kicked all the players.

Not sure if it means much but our CTF,SD and HQ aervers have not crashed once.

Whereas the TDM and WAR servers "crash" constantly. Not so much crash but kick all the players.

Same here 22 slot server runing TDM keeps crashing.I"ve just turned on logs to see what is hapening.

I think i might have a band-aid fix for the problem until Treyarch patches it. Our search and destroy has never crashed since beta release and stays full 32/32. Search and destroy you dont respawn nearly as much. So less spawns equals less chance of crash.

Run a respawn time of about 5 seconds. Also dont set the server up where it runs the map for a long period of time. If you want long matches do 2 rounds on each map. Or whatever you want.

This has seemed to help our servers out. They are all 32 player servers and not had a crash yet in about 4 hours on six servers that stay full almost all night. Not saying it wont crash like a jet liner without wings as soon as i hit the sack lol

Note i still havent put a twar server back up might need to give that a try with a longer respawn. Slightly horter rounds. :salute:

For those having crash issues, I have a few questions:

1. Did you have to upload the your installed files or were you able to install directly from the CODWWBETA setup file?

2. after the server crashes a few times, have you noticed that the servers start to lag? I have this problem with ours. it seems like even though I restart cod5, the computer 'act's like the game never shut down and everything starts lagging, including both the actual game server and when I'm logged on to the server via remotedesktop or logmein.com. Crysis was really bad about this. Those servers would crash and until I shut everything down and restarted, the whole computer was dirt slow.

I read this over at COD.com it seems Treyarch know about it as well.

"This is a known problem from the Xbox BETA (or similar)

Basically from what I remember each map has a certain amount of spawn points. In COD5 they have featured a much more sophisticated system of working out which spawn point is the safest considering other players locations.

So if you have a very busy server and everyone is spread out when someone comes to spawn and all the spawn points are marked as bad it gives this error.

If you think about COD4 on a busy server you would spawn behind people, ontop of grenades in an air strike etc This is supposed to stop that but does have problems.

I believe they are working on a fix but when people start making custom maps they can add more spawns which should also help the problam."

Both our server are getting the error posted in the OP. It's quite inconvenient and only seems to happen when the server is full (32 players). Really sucks to see a full server die instantly.

Also, I have a question to anyone else running a WAR server. Our server would crash unexepectedly, we wouldn't get the same error as our other server. Anyone else have this? Also, we could not change hte number of rounds per map, it was stuck at one. Anyone else experience this?

We also get this error. Would anyone know the commands for certain entity timers? Like how long corpses, weapons and other entities stay on the map until they disappear?

I'll try raising the respawn time, but would rather change something else to prevent the crash... but either way it needs to be prevented.

Nice to know, however, twar isn't listed, plus I added in player spawn time of 10 sec. but still, once the server fills, it starts to lag, then crashes with the same error as the OP.

i could only get 1 round out of it not matter what I did to the settings.

Interesting and sounds reasonable. For war / twar, there do not seem to be any spawn delay variable. If someone know these, please let us know.
If we just would know which of the entities exactly is leaking, then we could disable whatever it is, and the servers would continue to run.

I had all them settings in my configs anyway and both my hq and tdm servers crash all the time i reduced the slots to 26 thinking it would help but it still happens just as it did with 32 players hope they fix it when the game is released :(

i saw BW-UK's server running tdm 24 slots and 15 sec respawn time, it seemed to be holding up good, might want to try that?

It's like the old 'Conquest' game that we use to have as a mod, they are now calling it twar. Like domination but you must capture the areas in order.

i have a 24 man server , i made 22 slots and 2 private slots with a pw that no one knows , ever since i done this server has not crashed !

It will crash sooner or later, I had one server running with 12 slots. It was running longer as usually, but still crashed at some time.

That does it, I am going to write a quick dirty script to automatically restart the server once rcon doesn't respons anymore. I will share this here once it is done.

Sab on roadhouse is a killer.

Adjust your spawn times and make the rounds shorter.

I have two 8 or 9 min rounds for DOM and Sab and it's been going strong for 2 days now.

For those who need it, here is the download Link:

Details are explained in the README. It works based on PHP, checks the server, and detects if it is down. As the gameserver is spawned by the php script, it first kills the server process, then starts a new one.

I'd like to test this, but I really don't feel like installing IIS. I've never used Apache and PHP on a Windows2003 machine, but it should be fine shouldn't it?

I'd like to test this, but I really don't feel like installing IIS. I've never used Apache and PHP on a Windows2003 machine, but it should be fine shouldn't it?

You can install php seperatelly wether you are using IIS or APACHE, you do not even have to use a webserver at all in order to run this script with php ;)

The problem with usual restart scripts is, they only restart the server if the server process dies for some reason. But here the process itself continues to run. The server just runs into a kind of offline state.

So that is why usual restart scripts won't work ;)

Yep. Thats why your script and Serverdoc work in this instance. Its all about query checking instead of just checking the process.

I noticed a script error I didn't see when I uploaded the script today. For those who have already downloaded the script, either redownload or fix it manually:

Search for this code:

if ( isset($szAlertEmail) && strlen($szAlertEmail) > 0) )

replace with this code:

Well, our servers have been running decently smooth. Between our 2 servers we've had 1 crash in 5-6 hours. What we did is make each map last as little as possible. We made our SAB server 3 rounds, 5 minutes each and our TDM server 10 minutes per map.

I am going to install this but not to sure what that path should be in the serverrunner bat file should read ? should it go to the serverrunner php file or do we have to have some sort of php program installed if so where do i get it our server is runnin on Win xp sp3.

Update i think i needed PHP 5.2.6 installed so i have installed it so fingers crossed that fixes it :)

Another Update lol it didnt seem to work could it be that we have the PB server messages running and when everyone gets kicked for the G_Spawn the server messages still run.

Our 2 servers have been full all day. We have the dogs on, but they only last for 30 seconds with 3 max at a time.

We made the rounds as short as possible, 10 minutes for TDM and 6 minutes for SAB (with 3 rounds total for SAB). It seems to be working as we haven't crashed at all today.

We changed the settings to 10 min maps on TDM running Castle and
300 limit Dom running Makin and Roundhouse running CTF 3 flags 10 min time limit and fingers crossed no crashes since :D

I hope theres a patch on the day of release to fix it tho :)

UPDATE: Our server has just crashed but it was running for about 10hrs :) so alot better than crashing every other hour :)

i also reduced my 32 slot tdm to 10 mins and i only had 1 crash throught the day with the server full most the time. ppl moan about map time if you make spawns longer they moan if it crashes they dont come back no pleasing some :)

Yeah, I played in a CTF server where the rounds were 4 minutes each. Good lord that's short. I didn't complain though, as I knew the alternative. Hopefully they'll get it sorted out by 11/11.

It crashes once in a while i tried all the possible fixes that people wrote in this Thread and on Cod forums NONE of them work the server still crashes, maybe not all the time but reading all post and reply,s on this forum i went back to my old setup.

My setup server found somewhere on the web on the day of beta release i did reduce the dogs to 4 at the time set scr_dog_max_at_once "4"and made the re spawn time shorter instead of longer mine set to 5 sec and know it crashes maybe 4 times a day. my conclusion thats not bad for a Beta from the fact that its filled almost all day.


This is my setup know my server is a premium server rented from http://www.i3d.net/gamehosting-games.php i hope on full release the gspawn bug will be fixed as i be upgrading to a 40 slot server LOL i know this reply isn't really a fix for people having server crashes but its just my experience of the beta until know

Our servers stay full 30/30 and never crash. Been up almost a week solid and not 1 crash. Make the rounds 3:30 per round. 4 rounds per map. No crashes, not many complainers.

Those that do complain just tell them to go to another server and play 5 mins at a time only to crash...:salute:

i have tried what you did like i said my server still crashes but i made the rounds shorter tested all the possible fixes out there its not that my server crashes every five minutes No it stays stable for 6 hours in a row then it crashes and it stays stable for another six hours very weird i know. ( i like my settings not want to alter it i will take the occasional server crash for what it is beta bug.)

Neither is the guy i was talking to, he is running a CTF server.

Twar gametype is a lost cause in this beta even without the G_spawn crash the server will still crash for unexpected reasons. No point in even running a Twar server until the full version or a patch is released.

Looks like some progress is being made. Got this message today from my server provider.

We have installed a new CoD:WW server binary on this server. We need this server tested to make sure that there is no longer the g_spawnEntities crash. This binary should fix all the issues on all game types except Search & Destroy. Make sure that your server is set all the way to the maxplayers. If you have any crashes with the g_spawnEntities let us know immediately and we can relay the information back to Treyarch. This is not a public file and will not work with any other server.
