The First Amendment of Pc gaming Are we seeing console creep with CODWAW?

Just as in the separation of church and state in the U.S.Constitution We PC gamers have our own unwritten constitutional 1st amendment requiring the seperation of console and pc.

Proceeding unnoticed by most, as far as I can tell,Codwaw is being released as a Game for windows."So what"? you may ask. There is some difference for COD series pc gamers and Microsoft also has a

history that may be relevent and should raise some eyebrows.First lets talk about why this cod release is different from the rest.

Because it is a "Games for windows" release you will (as far as I can tell) be able to use an Xbox360 controller. And what are the general responses to forum questions asking whether an Xbox controller

,or any other for that matter, will work for a COD game.I wouldnt even want to Quote many of those responses. They can be quite extreme and only serve to establish the staunch position we gamers have about

the CRAFT of Pc gaming.By installing the "Microsoft Xbox 360 Accessories Software" the controller is instantly recognizable on the Pc.You can play Company Of Heroes this way and other titles too.I cant find

any quotes regarding Codwaw that say whether or not it will follow suit. This is a great question for JD the community manager at Treyarch.Ok,Let those foolish enough to use a controller try to compete with a

keyboard and mouse. The bodies will just hit the floor.Ahhh! My conspiracy ridden mind doesnt stop here.Maybe I read too much of the "Mogambo Guru" (google it) because I am compelled to add a bit of history

to the mix.

In 2004 Microsoft toyed with the idea of bridging the gap between Console and Pc gaming and even of erasing it completely. Microsoft conducted studies involving a hybrid machine that would play Console

and Pc titles. The machine was referred to as "Xbox Next Pc" and was described as a unit " which would require a PC monitor or high definition television, as being backward compatible with current and

next-generation Xbox titles. It would also play PC games and include a fully functional version of Windows, CD burner, DVD player (with remote control), built-in access to Xbox Live and a hard drive.

Control-wise, the system would come with both a keyboard and mouse and a standard Xbox controller. The price point this particular study tested was $599".It would only make financial sense that Microsoft

could envision a further meld by wanting each platforms players to share servers. And that would certainly involve pay to play for Pc gamers. If that reference (Pc gamer) even continued to exist. What do Pc

gamers say?

WHAT THE GAMERS SAY

June 2007: Tim Edwards, deputy editor on PC Gamer UK believes that cross-platform play, as demonstrated in Shadowrun, "is a dongle, a nice little bullet point on the back of the box".

Debuting with a first-person shooter, a genre notorious for heated opinion about control inputs, was a major risk on Microsoft's part. Edwards says that by featuring cross-platform play in Shadowrun

developer FASA has "essentially neutered the advantages of the PC platform", with the "ultra-precision aiming offered by the mouse and keyboard lost with spammy weapons with a wide fire arc".

"If cross platform gaming is going to work then it's the PC and 360 where it'll first break through, as the Xbox is definitely the most PC-like of all consoles. Microsoft of course hold the keys to both

platforms and see cross-platform as a tool for driving both 360 and Vista gaming, so they have a vested interest in making it happen", reckons self-confessed PC gamer and CVG development editor John

Houlihan.

Houlihan believes that it's easy to sneer at innovation - an ingredient all too often missing in modern gaming, he says - such as cross-platform gaming between Xbox 360 and PC, but at the same time admits

that in practice it faces a number of problems.

PC gamers have played free online and existed quite happily for years without any Live-style rankings, leaderboards and achievements, so they'll have to be convinced to a) upgrade to Vista, b) pay for Gold

account privileges and c) that their favourite hardcore titles haven't been dumbed down to accommodate 360 fans.

Occams Razor essentially states that The simplest explanation is usually the best.1+1+1=3 Games for windows+ported from console+history = ? It seems that there may be movement in the direction of Cross

platform gaming. Its hard to say especially if its creep. But what do I know.I see chemtrails,a new currency called the Amero and 700 billion dollar takeover of the American public.
