Gamez.nl, one of the leading Dutch gamingsites reports that it is going to give out keys for the upcoming beta. I thought it was going to be an open beta? Seems like it's not.

If it is going to be closed, we need to get the files from some place.
Anyone got more info?

edit: i mean the server files btw ;) Hope we don't need a key for that....

Also says 17 October as beta date.
Could all be a very lame publicity stunt though.

beta keys for the console not the PC. I have not heard anything regarding keys for the PC version and I talked to them last night.

Them = Treyarch

It's PC i am talking about.
If you can read dutch take a look at the site ;)

"Activision biedt samen met GameZ.nl exclusief plekken aan voor de pc-beta van de game."

Translation:

"Activision offers exlcusive spots for the pc-beta of the game together with gamez.nl"

I still don't believe it, I have an email asking Treyarch for clarification.

I also doubt it, it seems like a very lame publicity stunt as i mentioned earlier. Thousands of people have given their email addresses, nice spam list for them ;)

Have you gotten anything out of Treyarch? I wonder why all the secrecy.

The puzzler for me is how are they going to host the PC beta / demo. The game server companies don't seem to have a lot of information.

More then likely it will be a windows EXE that you will have to download and install on your local box. (unless the providers have windows boxes they can install on remotely, which should not be an issue using windows remote desktop)

Then upload the game to the dedicated "WINDOWS" server and run as a dedicated server. Linux bits more then likely will not be released with the demo as Ryan, the guy who does the ports for Act/IW/Trey/EA......... needs final code before he can work his magic

I'm told more info should be coming soon.

Gamez.nl now admits it will be public but if you add yourself to the list you will get a key.
They still say it is going to be the 17th, and as they do seem to have a deal with activision this might very well be true.

On top of that, the demo will be a fraction of the size the full release will be. I wouldn't be at all surprised if GSPs got the demo no earlier than anyone else.

Any GSP experienced with the CoD engines will likely be able to get a server up and running in less than an hour of getting the files installed.

The NUMBER 1 problem people have when setting up their first dedicated CoD server: failing to call a map... ;)

So anyone who signed up on the Dutch site mentioned above get a key or demo yet? Please keep us informed.

Treyarch has not gotten back to me regarding the validity of this site and their offer. As soon as I hear anything I'll let you know.

This is the oddest beta / demo process.

FYI

the beta launch with gamez.nl has been posponed... Activision want's to get rid of all the bugs they encountered first...

who would have thought of this...

Guess we all just have to wait a little longer :)
