Server Files (Linux in particular)

Anyone heard anything about progress on the Linux binaries for WaW at all? Ryan is awfully quiet, as are Treyarch/Activision.......

Nothing so far, but like you say Arseynimz Ryan is always "no comment" before a release.

We where told close to ship date, lets hope they can hold to that.

nothing yet, however so far treyarch has been good in getting things done on time. If not day one, I assume within the week of release (my guess)

sorry guys have not heard anything as of this am. as some of you know I'm currently away on business but have been checking the Activision PR FTP site as well as keeping a close eye on my email.

As soon as I know it will be posted in here and on the front page. There are several others keeping a close eye on the linux mailing list and we will get the news out ASAP.

Are you kidding *7* Days No response , no linux files.... Call of Duty 5 WAW is a *FAIL* guys. I am owner of a Game Server company in Australia. (FPS-Servers). I run linux servers and guess what? Most of customers are already taken why? Linux is still not out. This is insane so i dont care like anymore like the first day this game was made. And i have feeling that one day they release llinux 1.1 the next day they release 1.2 and we wait again for bloody linux. This is just ridiclous.

Hate to laught but yes I second that. I am sure that will happen but after 7 days I am not to sure it will be released any time soon maybe in 1.2. Sad to say seem like I wont be able to make a server to play on. Or maybe I am wrong I just hope it comes out !!! soon !!! :hand:

I hate the waiting all the time for linux files... but what really bothers me with COD:WaW is that I have not seen any word about the linux bins... this site ( of the ones I visit ) is the only place I have seen mention of the linux files. With COD4 this was not the same. The developer let us know what was going on with them.

While I'm told they are working on it, they are being super secretive for some strange reason.

No ETA is given not even if Ryan is working on it for some strange reason and no it's not an MS conspiracy or so I'm told.

It's just some producer who thinks that for some reason it's not good to talk to their customers....... which is the biggest CoD mistake in it's complete franchise history.

These publishers and developers have a lot to learn about customer service, even though they may make a great game they don't have a clue how to communicate.

I have to agree as well. This is now way past ridiculous, you would think a company could plan out a game release properly by now. I just can not believe it really. You would think they were EA or something with how this part of the release is being handled.

Hahah guys what did i say? I said this patch will not come up for long time. And atm ridiclious is no near enough...Like i stated whats the point if they release now? I work for FPS-Servers.com run linux servers and everyone has got there servers already and US (Linux Companies) have nothing left nearly....

It has come to a point that if they release the patch even now who would care much? Everyone got there servers sortted and lots of them are going to go stuff that cbf moving my servers because i am happy here so yeah. On other hand some people who run there own free servers to play on thats still a problem... GameServers.com or other companies which are windows such as internode , gamearena for australia... has already put a lot pubs that when you try to put yours on it will barely be used *I am guessing*. So at this stage all the excitements and plans about this game is simply *Dead*.

Nope nothing, after my last email to Treyarch asking about information regarding Linux and getting "we don't reply to rumors and speculation" then my reply.....WTF, I have nothing.

But remember that last week most of the Treyarch staff was off because of the US holiday celebrated on Thursday and Friday, thus they take the whole week off.

I can understand they having to QA the bits, and that takes time. Also how, unfortunately it falls upon a week where most US workers take the whole week off.

What I don't understand is the stupid and asinine comments regarding not commenting on rumors and speculation. That is just uneducated, unthoughtfulness, misguided and not very unprofessional. We're not talking about the next up and coming unannounced game/release/franchise. We're talking about a feature they said would be released. But for some strange reason, they can not bear to communicate with us. I'm starting to think this is not a 402 (see how well CoD4 was communicated) or JD2020 (Treyarch) policy but an Activision policy.

They just don't get how just a small amount of communication will nip a lot of this frustration in the bud.

I now think of it this way:
Activision = Great games but very poor communications.
EA = Great Communications but very poor games.

Why did Blackhat have to go work for a console only game dev? Would have loved to see him work for Activison, he could have easily covered both IW and Treyarch's community management departments, with time and energy to spare and doubled if not trippled our game/corp info.

Oh I forgot to mention, how I was also told that a lot of info is released in the Callofduty.com forums. Yeah, via replies in threads you have to comb through all the childish comments to find out what Treyarch is up too. Don't forget, that's after you access the forums that are private unless you sign up, verify your age, finger print scan and leave a DNA sample. Who makes up this stuff?

Yeah that's the way to communicate with your customers..... OK you don't really need a finger print scan or DNA but I would imagine those would be easier to give then to have to go through the process of trying to figure out wha they are trying to tell us.

Another way to go Activision, who the hell thought up that policy?

I remember reading JD post that he reads the forums daily and so forth .. so i posted regarding the linux files ... no reply ( along with quite a few others .. and bumped another linux post again lol... i would rather a post saying " we'll get them out by christmas" rather than this nothing.

Its come to a point us saying * I dont give a shit anymore * about what they did. What i heard from people since 2 weeks is *Coming Soon* and its a bull shit. This game is totally crap. I 've never seen such a ridiclious planning on releasing stuff on Games. We should all just stop argueing because everyone told me its been confirmed to defenet date and it was MONDAY and its nearly wednesday. I don't know who told you Monday but that was never given. The only news we have received was it is now in the hands of Activision QA.

Also remember that we've always had to wait for the Linux bits or all CoD titles, that's a given. The main problem is Activision/Treyarch has not communicated very well in letting us know what is going on.

The game needs to be patched to fix a number of issues. Your wait may be for this reason. Just a thought.

Doubt if we'll bother with waw servers when it does come out, maybe one, but there's 8 cores doing nothing because of this crap.

( Congrats ). At last someone is in same position as me. Like i stated what is the point if they release linux now. Because all th customers are * GONE *. This game is a total failure.

Ok I have to ask what's the big deal over linux servers. I've only used windows servers and my servers are away full the day the games released. I mean what, do you get a free lollipop for using linux servers. I'm just trying to understand what the difference is to make you wait.

For GSP they need to run many dedicated cod servers as they can on one box, reliably.

The extra cost and overhead windows creates is not cost effective.

What do you mean Linux is not important? Why would i run on windows. I have to pay for a bloody license.... re-format your machine (If you already have it on linux). Re - Install games on it.... Its pointless. I'd rather use a free service then a paying one.

There have been a post that has a work around, you will need to review the cod@icculus.org posts to see how it works. It still uses wine, but does not need a desktop. If I read it right anyway, below is a link for the files from one of the mirrors.

I downloaded the Dedi files from the link you gave and the top one is useless i wasted my 280MB. There is no cod_inxded all that binaries for LINUX. So its pointless.

If anyone is still waiting on this, I saw this posted in the announcement thread about patch 1.2 by JD.

Linux binaries are soon to follow. Another update on that when we get it, I hope to hear from the team tomorrow - it's in testing.

Do not know what this means.... its be in testing forever already... but thought I would post for you all.

People talk about Call of Duty all around the world. And how can they miss out on something like this which is soo simple for them.
