Can't use cod2 and can't re install

I have a friend who for some unknow reason Can't play his cod2 game. When he tried to delete it he did it wrong (not using the uninstall). Now he can't even get it to uninstall the right way. When he tries to reinstall it, it acts likie the game is already there (but it's unplayable). What needs to be done??

he needs to clean out his registry, either by hand or with some app designed to do this
