The guys over at Kaos, have released some information regarding the next patch for FFoW. God knows the server browser, including the master server needs a good kick in the ass. Then again it could also have something to do with the wonderful UT3 engine for the PC platform.
Hi all,
Sorry we couldn‘t give you an exact date for the next patch, we wanted to make sure that we test it properly so we don‘t introduce new issues.

We are about a week away from releasing 1.02 which includes many fixes and we are already at work on 1.03 where we plan to have an overhaul to the server browser to fix many complaints.

Some of these fixes will be in 1.02, such as not being able to join some servers, filters always working properly, player count sorting etc. However a bigger update on the browser will be in 1.03.

With 1.02, we are also releasing a dedicated server build and a frontend to host your own servers without CD keys.
Thanks for your patience,

Update:
It seems that there is more to the dedicated story then meets the eye. If you read this (http://community.kaosstudios.com/showthread.php?t=7049) thread, it appears that Kaos does not really want to answer questions regarding what a ranked vs unranked server are. It also seems that two GSPs are renting beta code from this private beta test. - This is interesting. Kaos, states they are beta testing the dedicated files, which can not be released to the general public. However these GSPs can seem to be renting boxes based off this code - makes you go hmmmmmm. One of these GSPs did the something similar with the Airborne dedicated server files before they where release.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out and how other GPSs get access to the ranked server code. IW hit the nail on the head with the way they released their ranked and unranked servers and it shows. Look at how many servers and clients are online playing CoD4 vs FFoW and Airborne.

While I like FFoW very much, once you can actually connect to a server, I will be watching this closely and reporting as details emerge.

From what I heard 2 weeks ago, they were already testing the dedicated servers. They stated they would be released within 2 weeks, so obviously thats not happening.

As for the 2 GSP's that are hosting there beta code works off the wonderful Key per server instance that has been working so wonderful for all UT3 servers *ugh*, the new one does not have/need a Key to run. Other GSP's were supposed to have access to this code, but since they thought that a dedi server would be out this week they reneged on that offer and just told everyone to wait for the dedicated server.

We were also told that the game went through full QA and there were ZERO problems that could be found with the Single Player or Multiplayer, which seems ridiculous. Not having a dedicated server seems like a huge issue and should have been ready for release *coughAIRBORNEcough*. As if we haven't said it enough around here, but might as well beat that horse to a pulp, multiplayer drives a game, without dedicated servers a game becomes useless outside of singleplayer.

Here are the 2 GSP's that are infact renting these servers out and making money off them:

Yet all the other gsp's has to wait and sit on their thumbs. While Myis and ID3 is making money off what they call beta code. Why should other gsp's even offer this game since they will not have a chance in hell to ever get a market share.

Also the community manager will not answer the hard question as to why these 2 gsp's are being allowed to SELL these servers while the rest are flapping in the breeze.

What I find interesting is, Kaos states that they don't want to release this beta code to their customers because it's not ready and needs further testing. Then on the other hand, will let their two GSPs release this code if the customer pays for it. WOW!

Sure hope these GSPs are actually testing the game over taking money but if that is what Kaos wants, then we'll see how well this game survives.

I wish someone at the WWoF MP summit has spoken up and told them their in game browser needs fixing, as well as the master servers to name a few of the blaring issues.

Why do developers hire/invite people out to these types of meetings when everyone is more worried about keeping their relationships then offer any usefull feedback to make the game better? I wonder if anyone said anything bad about the game..... and they wonder why PC gaming is on another downturn.... go figure.

WoW, sure seems like MoH:A all over again lmao. I did not buy this game yet, and I am glad I didn't, I have enough drink coasters, why would I need more especially $40 or $50 coasters. I read that whole thread thru that link Rude 7 or 8 pages and LOL. Is it me or are the devs for this game asshats ? I mean when people cough up dough they have a right to complain, the only solution is to have EVERYTHING READY at launch and half of these developers today don't seem to still have grasped this concept. People in my view were asking important questions and the devs were not even answering the questions presented at all. :o

What I do not understand is what has changed in online gaming ? Really what has changed, not much, thats for sure and they still can't get it right. I mean most online games need some type of server for people to play on, why are the server files the last thing worked on and generally not worked on until AFTER the game is released ? Who wants to buy a online game with no server files available or nowhere to play ?

Why would a company release a online game and NOT have server files READY for distribution at games retail launch.

I just don't get it...

So far the all these online games that seem to such and have major issues with the online portion of the game (both console and PC) is the Unreal engine.

If anyone really cared, we could throw UT into the games that have been released with major features missing.

And if I understand how consoles work, its a world of peer servers. If that is true, and since the engine is designed for consoles - and oh yeah, PCs, servers would not be a priority.
