View Full Version : 54 Player Servers Howto?

soon as i go over 50 players my servers crash, yet there are other server out there running 54 players. So my question is how are they doing it and how can i do it?

It crashes when it is full or at startup?

Have you altered your server's maxrates or fps_max settings?

Using any pb_ucons?

Its because Activision didnt make the program for that many ppl. Who cares if someone is running 4 more slots than you im sure they sometimes have the same problems. If i were you i would make the server 50 slots and you shouldnt have any problems.

If you are that worried about the extra 4 slots post the error you get in console when the server crashes. Its hard to know what is happening unless you can post an error.

check This Thread (http://www.infinityward.com/community/forum/index.php?topic=17729) about large servers, it's a very known issue, and apparently the developers don't like more than 30 players and there's tons of people that don't support it. boo.

mMiniImManN i see in your signature your running 54 players so i guess you have figured out the answer i required, do you care to share how?
and if you look i have asked the same question in that very post that you have just linked. i have failed to see the answer in that thread.

The crash problem comes from too many items being displayed on the screen multiplied by the number of players on the server. When you get above 50 players you can multiply how many items are being displayed on the screen and you'll discover that this is what cause the crash. There are only so many items allowed to be displayed on the players HUD (heads up display).

Some common fixes are going hardcore (which minimizes screen items) and removing things like arty, airstrikes, etc. This keeps down the number of HUD items making it easier to go 54 slots.

CoD4 is not too bad but codwaw is worse than the original cod1 when it comes to HUD items.

looks like infinity ward took away the CoD4 section! (unless i'm blind?)

basically the thread had to deal with spawns when it comes to large sloted servers... the game would freak out and dump lines upon lines of error code (into the console_mp.log).

there is no real fix for it, some mods go ahead and fix it (including http://forums.raidersmerciless.com - which host several kickass mods). Other than that, gotta keep the player count down or it will crash periodically.
The only problems with mods are - people are so into this 'ranking' system and 'earning' their weapon of choice. it's a cheap EA rank copy. CoD series should never have gone rank for weapons in the first place; Doesn't anybody remember how kickass CoD1: UO was? Pick from a few weapons (and plenty more via a mod that seamlessly integrated with the game, vehicles that worked! and among other things, no really lame weapon glitches that only moder's can fix. Hmpf, oh well, let's see what they don't implement properly in the new CoD.
