View Full Version : Questions On Custom Map Server

I've got a server running for custom maps but was wondering about the .iwd files going into the Modwarfare folder. Is this a community standard? I ask because I have my .iwd files in a folder called "custommaps" which, upon connecting to my server, I was forced to download onto my gaming rig, even though I had the maps in question already installed but with the .iwd files in a differently name folder. So, if this is a community standard, won't the Modwarefare folder get rather cluttered? Seems like there ought to be a better standard.

Also, when I connected to my server I had to download all the .iwd files in the rotation at once, is this normal or is there a way to download one map at a time?

iwd and .ff files can either go in the mod folder or the usermaps folders, it depends on the way the map maker designed it.
and yes, in time things could get cluttered.

The standard until the 1.6 patch attempts to fix things is that the map ff files go in the usermaps folder and the iwd's go in the fs_game folder. Most people are then combining the iwd's into one file to clean up the downloads.

While it's true that some maps will run with the iwd's in the usermaps folder any map with any sort of scripting will not so at this point it's eaisest to keep them in the modfolder.

You do download all of the iwd's at one time but as I said they can be combined into one file to clean up the mess.
