How fast the years go by when you're older, hell I turn 40 this year . I can't believe it's 2008 already, where the did 2007 go? About a week ago, I was on a plane flying back home for the holidays. I started jotting down the highlights of this past year on FPSadmin.com. Here is an overview of 2007 with all the links I could find.

I would also like to take this time to thank our staff, OldDog, Majorwoody, Gasplat, MikeNomad and Wizz along with the sponsors who help us stay on line :salute:.

I would also like to thank all the members who find the time to help others in the forums. Without all of you this site would be nothing.

I hope you enjoy my little year in review. Here is looking forward to a great 2008!

Last January I posted this blurb (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12224) about a link, that was passed around the Medal of Honor Airborne mailing list (private) regarding the PC compared to the next gen game consoles. While the full power of the next-gen consoles is still a matter for some debate, there's no question about one thing - by the time developers are testing the limits of the PS3 and the Xbox 360, countless people will already own PC systems whose sheer number-crunching and pixel-pushing prowess leaves the consoles in the dust. Another factor is also worthy of consideration; if you assume any system within a broad range of the sort of power we see on the Xbox 360 now to be "next-gen", then by far the platform with the largest next-gen installed base is not Microsoft's beige box at all. It's the PC; the vast range and huge number of compatible platforms, ranging from home-built systems to mass-produced Dell desktops and fantastically high-end Alienware machines, and from hefty desktop replacement laptops to Apple's hugely popular (and PC compatible) MacBook Pro range of slimline beauties.

Blackhat had a follow up link (http://au.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=24525221) pointing to all the games that would be released in 2007. Not all made it but it was a great overview of what we had in store for the year to come.

Around this time, Blackhat was very interested in getting our and other site's feedback for the much anticipated release of Medal of Honor Airborne. Blackhat posted on 6/30/2007 -Game server administration

-I'm sure I missed some sites, if you have links please post them
However at this time there was very little information in regards to the multi player side of the game.

While EA's Blackhat was on most of the major sites getting much appreciated face time asking for our input, the Infinity Ward community manager was no where to be found.

Everyone was on their edge of their seats waiting for games like Crysis (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13438), HL2L E2, Team Fortress 2 (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13242), Medal of Honor Airborne, Call of Duty 4 as well as Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. Not to mention other games like Unreal 3 and BioShock.

Vivendi purchased Activision (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13881), which took everyone by suprisecombination of Activision and Vivendi Games, Activision Blizzard, will create the world's largest, most profitable pure-play video game publisher with some of the most popular titles in the industry, including Guitar Hero®, Call of Duty®, Tony Hawk, World of Warcraft®, Starcraft® and Diablo®.
Please check back regularly for updates regarding the transaction.
Intel sponsors a new map for BattleField 2 titled: Highway Tampa (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12761)

http://www.fpsadmin.com/gallery/main.php/d/3729-1/airborne.jpg Medal of Honor Airborne multiplayer info is released to a select group of community members at Fort Bragg. Both the PC and console community gets their first MP hands on. While some of us are disappointed (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12959) at what we are shown, some have a different opinion (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13042) on the state of the game. This is the time Blackhat disappears from our site leaving a lot of server admins hanging on what to expect from the game upon release.

PMOH gets another exclusive look (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13029) at Medal of Honor Airborne before it's release and assures us that things will be fixed upon release.

Another WWII based FPS game called Brother's in Arms is delayed again this time until the end of 2007 based on the same engine as Medal of Honor Airborne. (Unreal Engine 3)

While the Community manager for IW is still MIA and there is not that much info being released, we get invited out to IW to view Call of Duty 4.

With all the silence and everyone very concerned about what is this next PC title going to turn into we are pleased to say WE LIKE WHAT WE ARE SHOWN. Even Grant Collier sits down at dinner and talks to us about the past issues with the Call of Duty franchise and it's community. We all leave blown away by the game, how passionate the developers are and how the guy in charge (Grant Collier) feels about the game and his community.

Both Medal of Honor Airborne (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13160) and Call of Duty 4 are released. Airborne nose dives (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13860) into the ground killing everyone on board (luckily for Rudedog who refused to get on the plane before it takes off) while out of no where Call of Duty hits a home run (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14087). However there are so many people playing Call of Duty 4 MP, it crashes their master servers (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13548) causing some complaints with the PC community trying to play.

Patrick Gilmore releases a statement (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13451) on his blog saying he is sorry for the way Medal of Honor: Airborne was released and assures us EA will keep supporting this game with patches (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13920) and additional features.

However Mr. Gilmore still has not responded to my question (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13247)s on the official forums (http://forums.ea.com/mboards/thread.jspa?threadID=293218&tstart=0), which after several forum upgrades butchers my original post but has not fixed the search or url css bugs.

All said and done, Medal of Honor gets a community (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13140) driven Wiki (http://mohwiki.com/Home), however EA to this day (Jan 1st 2008) has not released an SDK.

Call of duty 4 has a developer + community driven Wiki that has not officially been announced but you can find it here (http://www.infinityward.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page). shhhhh don't tell anyone just yet. ;)

Forgotten Hope 2 is released for Battlefield 2

As of this writing, Call of Duty 4 has over 14,000 servers on line and god knows how many clients playing. While Medal of Honor Airborne has about 55 clients trying to play. There has been over 100,000 downloads of the Call of Duty 4 1.4 patch (http://www.fileplanet.com/182483/180000/fileinfo/Call-of-Duty-4:-Modern-Warfare-v1.4-Patch) while just over 11,000 people have downloaded the Medal of Honor 1.2 patch. (http://www.fileplanet.com/181320/180000/fileinfo/Medal-of-Honor:-Airborne-Patch-v1.2)

http://www.fpsadmin.com/gallery/main.php/d/3860-1/hell_freeze.jpg late in the year, out of no where, came a Duke Nukem Forever (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14065) sneak peak trailer.

http://www.fpsadmin.com/gallery/main.php/d/3733-1/BIA.jpg Brother in Arms slips again and is now delayed (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14021) until the 1st quarter or early 2008.

Ventrilo (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13603) releases an update.

Call of Duty 5 rumors start (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13968) and it looks like it will take place during WWII, however any dreams of COD 5 coming to the PC are crushed (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13993).

And last but not least, CompUSA here in the states are closing their doors for good (http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13958). After trying to cash in on their misfortune, I can see why they are closing. Why would I go to a store to save 15% on something i can not take back, if there is a problem out of the box. When I can get it cheaper from another store not going out of business?

Please let the East coast get a Fries Electronics please please please.....

I'm off to start 2008 off with a bang. I will be heading out to CES this Saturday with a trip out to area 51 with some friends, then spending the week on the show floor.

Have a great year everyone thanks for reading my 2007 rant. Heres to a great 2008 :salute:, stay safe and see you on the servers.
