now, i realize that this is my first post here, and this is an older game as we now have CoD4, but. . .

first, i knew i was at the right spot, howdeh, RudeDog <--- was lookin for you. . .

ok, here's the thing, i am not the best at linux, but, i got my server runnin, v1.3 CoD2 on fedora core 7, p-4 2.4 blah blah...my router, again linux, coyote.

i been goin through this board and a few others, and decided it was time to post

the server runs great, with a little browsing here, i found solutions to a few typical problems. little things like firewall settings (UDP, not TCP)and map setup, but, here is the issue i got.

as stated, the server runs fine, a few hitch warnings, whatever.... but, as soon as i log out of my linux box, the server goes down, it should run as a background service, right?

after re-reading the forum, ya, the whole forum, i noticed one thing missing from all but one post, and that is any mention of PID

near as i can tell, i do not have a pid for this server, i have not seen any mention of it in any of the many fine (and working) cfg files, nor any mention in any tutorial... and wouldn't ya know, this would be my snag

now, normally, i wouldn't care about this little problem, but, i don't like leaving my server logged into any account, as its also my irc, mysql web ftp and other basic domain servers... its just peace of mind. the server will be runnin through the holidays if i'm here or not, and beyond, as long as people want to play. we decided to go with cod2 instead of cod4 cause many in our group can't run it yet.

any help would be greatly appreciated

note: rudedog, not to scare ya or single you out, but, when i first ran my first CoD server, i found alot of your posts most helpfull, and to be honest, i can't even remember what name i used to post my thanks then...but, when i seen ya here, i figured this was my best shot at a fix for my problem... hope i'm right ;)

you might find this usefull http://www.fpsadmin.com/forum/showpost.php?p=57068&postcount=8
it was posted under cod4, but you just replace the cod4 with cod2

pid is process id, and you can list them with ps -aux, dunno what you want with them

i wouldnt get my hopes up about NFS, as i remember those games dont have dedicated servers, so dont think you'll find linux and nfs on the same day (i might be wrong tho, dont play those games)
