I am having bad lag when the server prints in the console window Hitch Warning: 4246 msec frame time..we only get this when this is printed and not any other time
i have read the above link but no real answer on how to fix this issue, last week we never had this issue its only been these last few days and nothing as changed on our dedi
he dedi is a windXP/6000+dual core/2.gig and running 4 spearhead servers and 2 cod4 servers ONLY..2 sh servers are always locked down and tonight a total of 26 people between all servers and it was going crazy
even if i close all servers except the one we still have this annoying issue so i don't think its a maX power issue ?
Any ideas on waht i can do to fix this please its just unplayable atm
thankyou

XP isn't a server OS. The processor should handle all of that. Make sure no one's messing with the server. Some screen saver, itunes, java apps, all that crap will steal CPU away from the games.
You're better off with a server OS. Put linux on it, all those games will run on linux :p

Im confused sorry, will linux make the machine run better ? or should the machine run ok as it is
there is nothing running like screensavers etc if fact when all is running i watched task manager and only 8/12% of cpu was been used

I believe it's possible to run the COD4 servers so they do not interact with the desktop and thus no console windows. The lag is coming from your system syncing up with the server display. I use firedameon to control my servers and I can set them to interract with the desktop or not. My understanding is that if I set all of them to not interract with the desktop the clients will feel no lag spikes as I join and leave the dedicated box. I use the console windows constantly to enter in changes to the server settings so I've never tried to run them as a service only.
Did you mean to say XP for your dedicated box or just Windows???

Hey Guys,
Unless you fully understand how to use linux, loading it onto server would be a really bad idea. We have had issues in the past with the AMD X2 series processors, we found binding services to a core, will help with the issues.
I would highly agree you load Firedaemon onto the server, as suggested above, onto your server. You will probably have allot better luck with it.
You may also want to check your resource usage on the box, you may be running out of RAM running all four of those servers.
There are many things that effect how your servers run, including how you have your config files setup. Are you having issues with all your servers, or just one or two?
Don't forget to minimize the console when your not using it, it will use far less memory :)

This is a good point, so i will quote it to reiterate it.
Linux is a great alternative to paying for a Windows 2003 license, but don't load it cause some guy in a forum (me) said it would work. It will, but learning how to use it if you've never used it before can be frustrating.

Sorry our dedi is windows Xp pro
Also i have another question which im kinda confused atm, i read somewhere when running more than one server you use the same install ?
Is this the best way..wont PB try and control all these servers and write to the same pb log surely that could be a issue
i would like to know the best way of running more than one install please
thanks
btw last night no issues with these spikes :s possible a network issue maybe

I find it much easier ( If you have the drive space ) to give each server it's own folder. It will save you many headache's. Easier to manage IMO.
