At last!! A simple, easy to use solution From Nohponex:


Hi guys,

I made one tool for making easy multiplayer backups of my own profile. So now, I want to share it with all. With this utility, you just have to press the Backup button.

Not sure (in terms of a restore), but it does save the .cfg properly...I looked through the resulting backup folder I created, and my entire profile is there. I also opened the resulting config_mp.cfg, and all my current setting appear to be there. I would say that the utility does exactly what it's advertised to do...back up your profile. I'm not sure how you would test it, except by uninstalling CoD4 entirely, including your existing profile, then re-installing and restoring from the backup, or...if you're feeling particularly adventurous, delete the profile directory, then try copying the backup.

If I had seen this before I left, I could have tested this out on the burn in hard drive I used for a recent build. Cool little app.

I am so addicted to leveling in CoD4 and worry about saving my rank..... I now know how the WOW addicts feel LOL.

How does this work? i bought CoD 4 today after a period playing on cracked servers, and when i changed cdkey it said "error reading blabla" and i got rank 1, but i backed up my profile before that, then i reinstalled cod 4 and putted my 2 files in the folder, it still says error reading file. how can i get my rank 40 back? :(

From what I understand your rank is tied to your serial number... so if you changed it you will have to start the leveling process over.

look
in your main profile file (mpdata) is your cd key.(not full but somehow)
for example if yours key is xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx and you give your profile to somebody
and he got another cd key , he can not use your file because his cd key and the cd key in file are indifferent.

There is only one way to do than
1)open the registy editor (Windows Start -> Run -> Regedit -> and go to (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Activision\Call of Duty 4)
2)in codkey value is your cd key change it with that the mpdata file uses.
3)if you haven t restore the back up do it.
4)Now open the game , while open the game the stats will work fine because computers cd key and files are the same
5)From the game go to -> Options -> Multiplayer Options -> Change Key
and change the cd key to another , after changing the key your mpdata file will be changed with the new one
so when you want to use somewhere this file you have to use this cd key.

can i use this to save my rank from one pc to another?
i.e; i have ranked up on my home pc, i just installed cod4 on my laptop, can i transfer my rank to my laptop?
both using the same key. only playing one at a time, of course.
could i upload to my remote server for a true roaming profile/rank?

you should.

Here is what I did around patch 1.1

Saved all the files this program saves (before it was released) and moved them to the correct folder on a new hard drive, along with the same key and everything worked out fine.

However just like anything in this world. Don't go erasing the files on your main box before you try this ;). Please report back to others can use this info.
