View Full Version : unranked servers, anything else needed in mod folder?

hi, hopefully somebody can help me here.
I have a private server used for my team, i have modded the server.cfg to include such settings
as disabling music, gren launcher, stun grenade, etc.
the above settings didn't take effect, and further investigation showed it was because the server hadn't
been launched as a modded server.
now, i understand the following has to be used:
iw3mp.exe +set dedicated [1,2] +set fs_game "mods/<modname>"
but i don't understand it completely. can i just create any folder i want inside the /mods/ directory,
and put my server.cfg file in there, or do other files need to be in there also?
any help appreciated.

The way i have the <MAD> server setup is :-
C:Programfiles\COD4\iw3mp.exe +set dedicated 2 +set net_ip xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx +set net_port 28960 +set sv_punkbuster 1 +set fs_game mods/Mad +exec server.cfg +map_rotate
Mad being the folder with server cfg,mod.ff,mad.csv,maps and madv1.iwd
To get these files first make a new folder on your desktop and rename to 5loth then you need to open the
modwarfare folder and copy mod.ff,mod.csv and z_modwarefare.iwd and paste them into your 5loth folder.
Then on the mod.csv file right click and rename it to 5loth.csv and then also rename the z_modwarefare.iwd
to 5loth.iwd and now place you server.cfg into the 5loth folder.So you should now have in that folder 4 files:-
5loth.csv
5loth.iwd
mod.ff
server.cfg
If you don't want the client to have to download the maps which are in the .iwd file you can extract them with winrar and just leave them in the 5loth folder but that is up to you .The 5loth folder now needs to be in program files/cod4/Mods
obviously you don't have to use 5loth as a folder name use whatever you like i just used it as an example

Your tutorial worked perfectly for me. That and getting my server hosting to change the startupparam command to start the server using fs_game like so:
+set dedicated 2 +set net_ip 66.55.137.67 +set sv_maxclients 24 +set net_port 28960 +set fs_game mods/5loth +exec config.cfg +map_rotate
Our server is now unranked but it plays with all weapons and all perks for everyone regardless of rank.

i had, and am still having, an issue where I can't select a class when using an unranked setup :(

Are you providing a modified .iwd to the clients? What is your current folder structure?
My mod is server-side, and is in an open-folder setup (no .iwd sent) so the only thing
on the redirection server is the mod.ff file.
It may be worth a try to see if that works for you also..
No need to rename the .csv either (in case anyways) :)

I'm pretty sure that if you use the IW unlocked modwarfare mod that you cannot use the class system. In my server at least they do not work and you have to choose your setup for each round.
I haven't tested it yet but you may be able to bind your classes to keys as a workaround...
