Netcode or ping reporting wrong?

Anyone notice pings are doubled in the server. I ping 50 almost everywhere but in cod4 servers I'm 100

I haven't had pings doubled. They have been higher then CoD2 in general.

Just a thought.

If you're coming from CoD2, especially the competitive community, you will have to factor in that servers were running at sv_fps 30 (which made pings at least appear lower) while CoD4 is running at sv_fps 20

My pings are actually lower in COD4 but we mod the ever lovin piss out of the COD2 servers and that always drove the ping up a bit. That's Florida talk...:salute: You know.....big hair, tight jeans with a smoke.


If it's a general issue in all COD4 servers I'd check the rate in your config_mp.cfg in your profile folder. I've also seen several reports about various virus programs causing major lag issues for no apparent reason. I.E. The game starts and runs ok with no pop ups from the virus program but when it's shut off pings come down and the game runs smoother.

I had one interesting ping related issue when leaving COD4 and joining my COD2 servers. My ping was almost double in the COD2 servers on that one occasion for no apparent reason that I could tell. Reset everything and it was normal. Could be some process hanging up.

I have noticed this as have several of my clanmates. Our server is about 100 miles from my house and if I ping the server from a command prompt, I get a ping of 13ms. If I check the game ping using HLSW, it shows me pinging low 20's. Once I join the server, I have an in-game ping of 50 or higher.

In contrast, if I join our UO server, I have an in-game ping of 25.

Both our servers are on the same box which is located in San Jose, CA. The IP for COD4 is 66.79.188.225:28960 and our UO server is at 66.79.171.109:28965. Try them both and I think you will find a significant ping increase in COD4. I can even fire up our COD2 server just to test if you would like.

I must agree That most players I see in servers that would normally be expected to give a 20/30 are now giving a 40/50 in COD4?
