Call of Duty 4 Master server issues

While I just installed the game today, I have been unable to get on line to play. It seems that IW and Activision are having some issues with the Cod4master server.

People are reporting timed out connections when trying to connect, 402 has acknowledged that there was a problem but it was fixed yesterday and the day before. It seems that they are still having more issues.

Here's a couple of things that you can do to assist with connecting when the master server's are having issues.


Pull down the console and type /connect ***.**.*.*** or the IP or just connect from your favorites if you have a server saved that you want to play in. When the timer gets to around 9 type in /reconnect and keep it up until you either get in the server or get too tired and decide to play the single player or something else until IW gets the master server issue fixed.

Here's another way of basically doing the same thing. Enter the following in the console before you attempt to connect:

seta cl_connectionAttempts "20"

You can also edit your config_mp.cfg in your profiles and enter this command there if you want it to be permanent.


You can set it longer but keep in mind that you cannot escape out of it once you connect.

Brand new game and a 3 day weekend here and we cant even play this game most of the time. me so sad........

Almost all have that problem.
I have to connect 3 or 4 times to get on my own servers.

I like to no who the rocket scienctiset was who decided to time out client after a count of 10.Ever since they brought out the patch in COD it takes me a count of 26 to connect most of the time not always.But having everybody disconnect after 10 wasn't to smart.
It is an easy fix all they have to do is make it so that it wont timeout till about 45 or 60.
Natrualy they would have to do it with a patch.

I found a faster way and it only takes me 2 to 3 minutes to join any server as long as I have the IP. Try connecting as Radioactive said but if it times out, quit the game and then restart it (don't know why but it works). Enter in the IP again and if it times out do a /reconnect. It works for me and my team every time because our servers are not showing up so we have to direct enter everytime anyways. It may be an annoyance but at least when you connect you can play a game that is in all sense of the terms PLAYABLE. We are simply having a blast with this game and I am not gonna let this little problem slow us down at all. :D
