COD4 Servers Ranked or Not?

I am curious, is there a difference between COD4 Servers? I mean can I build one myself and have it play exactly the same as any other?

I know in BF2, they made it so only certain vendors could host their "ranked" servers which accumulated the stats for unlocks. Is COD4 doing the same?

Yes you can.

Yes you can run ranked yourself or indeed on any rented server. the ranked system is not like that of BF2 and doesn't restrict access via FTP etc.

All you have to do is run the basic ranked config to be ranked, or switch to the uber config to run unranked. this means if you only have one server you can switch between ranked and unranked when ever you like just by restarting.

What is the basic config for ranked? I took the "basic config file" out of the windows server admin thread...is that what you mean?
