I could care less if I sound like a wowie-zowie or even worse, a fanboi like Zoolander... (jk) But that's OK, its all good. This is one time I'll wholeheartedly agree with Zoo. I must say Call of Duty 4 is a major winner. The SP mode will grab you and not let go.The PC Single Player side is simply put, revolutionary in design, animation, composition, appearance and repeat playability. Infinity Ward has outdone not only themselves they've surpassed anything this author has seen to date. The single player side is extraordinary!!Call of Duty Single Player: http://forums.raidersmerciless.com/maps/redorchestra/Star5.gif

Then comes the Multi-Player Client and Dedicated/Listen server. Here we have a major cut-away from previous concepts and design for MP by IW.
Initially, we'll see some reservations in the wild due to human nature resisting change, but the concept, design and functionality in the Dedicated Server is truly done so with both the Server Admin and Client in mind. As the servers become more plentiful and the configurations are imbued with imagination, we'll soon discover that both sides of the PC Online Gaming Community's needs (Pubber/Comp) are met to a very large degree.Call of Duty Multi-Player: http://forums.raidersmerciless.com/maps/redorchestra/Star5.gif

All in all, its a given that we are in for a fun filled coupla years with this puppy.

Can you tell I like Call of Duty 4? :)

Thanks for posting, Brian and Mike!

It's nice to see someone report on the game who is honest and had concerns with past games from the developer. Way to go Mike :salute:

It's also nice to see a developer deliver on the promises from their summit! While we where not able to actually touch the game, what we where shown blew us away. That's right what we where shown!

Now my only complaint right now, is I'm stuck in AZ (beautiful state) until Thursday and will not be able to play until Friday.......

The fact that you cannot connect to a server when the master servers are down is putting a bit of a bummer on my review. My 3 servers were all full last night and this morning not only are they empty but I can't connect to them myself. I hope IW gets this one fixed fast!!!!!

In general it's eaisly a 10 out of 10 for me. I'm about half way through the single player so far and it's absolutly incredible. The cut scenes and additional content imerses you into the game and everything looks top notch. The gameplay is smooth and well though out. Multiplayer is great. It needs a few tweaks here and there in my opinion from the stock settings to really make it awesome though. Fortunatly most of them are already built into the stock cfg's. Even though the servers go up to 32 players at this point I can say that for the War or Tdm gametype my experience last night was that with all of the automatic weapons the game play would probabaly be better with more like 24 players. I haven't tried the hardcore or oldschool modes with a full server yet but I can see me liking the hardcore mode without the crosshairs and UAV mini map stuff. For now though the mini map showing teamate locations does help you get to the action quickly on a map that you don't know. I'd like the see the ability to up the player run speeds past the 100% that the stock cfg's allow. I guess I got used to the extreme mods for COD2 where you could speed up player movements and the normal walk around the map speed for COD4 feels a tad sluggish.

All in all the game is incredible. I'm impressed with how well everything runs out of the box with the exception of this not being able to connect to a single server hiccup that's happening right now. I managed to get the supplied mod working with the full unlocks and the mp44 on my unranked server as well so you have all perks, weapons and attachments available upon joining the server. I don't see the ranked or pure server thing lasting past a week or two. By then everyone will have everything unlocked anyway and will turn to specific gameplay styles.

After several hours of play yesterday I am giving CoD4 a preliminary rating of 7 out of 10.

The good:
I am very pleasantly surprised at how complete this game is in terms of MP content and innovation. It was a rush to play MP yesterday! A feeling I have not had since the first CoD. I like the many weapon choices and how each weapon actually seems to fill a roll and makes me use a different style of play to be effective with each one.

I have a very old system. AMD Sempron 3000+ (socket A), ATI 9800 Pro, 1 GB PC2700 Ram. My frames per second are always in the red according to cg_drawfps 1 and yet the game plays pretty smoothly! I can not wait to build a new rig so I can see how it does at higher settings. Big big cudos to IW for making this game fun to play and still look like a new game across a huge range of equipment!

A full 28 slot ranked server is only consuming about 128 megs of memory and 20% of my servers aging Athlon MP 2600+ CPU's.

The bad:
My ranked server is constantly full and sometimes I have a hard time getting in! :p

The reason that I am only giving this game a 7 now is that we have not yet seen the complete package which includes post launch support. There are some issues and more will be found over the coming days. How IW handles things in the coming months will determine my overall score. I would like to see CoD TV added very soon for the competitive community as well as bug fixes.

Thus far it actually looks as though IW has reinvented itself and is actually caring about its MP community. Will they have what it takes to take this very promising game over the top? This remains to be seen but given what they have accomplished so far they are well on thier way.

I read somewhere on the net that you can joint a server(when the main is down) by going through
the console and type"connect" then the IP addy you want to joint
and you're there.

Sorry i'm too old to remember just where I read it but I do remember reading it.:D

....Mutt....

No review...yet. I actually haven't had a chance to play. My server has been up since midnight, or so (thx Woody), and has been completely full most of the day. I, however, have not even installed the game!

More later...

I have yet to play, and it is doubtful that I will, the Single Player side of the game. Possibly in the next couple months I might give it a shot.

However in the one day since CoD4's release, I have put more time into it than I have CoD2 in the last year. I really struggled to wait for the reviews. I vowed not to be fooled into buying a broken game, but as I saw all my clan mates buying it yesterday my will broke and I haven't looked back since.

I find CoD4 Multi-Player exponentially better than CoD2 in gameplay and ingenuity. All the maps, save the one teeny tiny slaughterbox, are well balanced and flow nicely. I was wary about perks, ranks, and all that mumbo jumbo; worried that we would be corralled into another Battlefield series whose sole purpose was to milk our cash. After playing nearly all of yesterday, I find myself very excited every time I rank up, get a challenge, or receive a new perk. Also the perks work great at balancing the different classes. As of yet, I have not seen an uber noob cannon, and I believe this is because of the huge number of choices the player has available as to their loadout.

What makes all this even more exciting is that I have barely even scratched the surface of Multi-Player, what with all the blending of gametypes, and huge server configs. The only criticism I have is has to do with the with the custom class. The 20 seconds between rounds is simply not enough time to properly put together a loadout. Yes it is possible to configure them outside a server. However with the hassled involved in just connecting to the server, it's not worth it. I think allowing the player to customize their loadout before joining a team, at the beginning of a map, would be a better solution. All in all I think, IW really outdid themselves with this one.

There are a few bugs as with any new game that need to be fixed asap. For example the master server query. This IMO is going to be IW's real test. Will they support this game promptly and effectively? If they do, we very well may have the game of the decade thus far.

9 out of 10

Batman: Robin this game is awesome, like nothing I have every played before. It has everything you want in an FPS.

Robin: Shut up Batman. Your named after a animal that hangs upside down and craps on it self, must have affected your brain.

Batman: Look Robin, your pants are clearly too tight. The game has a great single player thats is very intense and reminds me of fighting the Joker. Its a little short but its great, just like that night with those two Thai hookers!
Then there is the multi-player and all its extra perks, I'm loving the attack helicopter, plus their are lots of maps and you can play old school, hardcore (like me) or OldCore modes. Its just fab.

Robin: Shut up Batman. I can't play the dam game can I. I on vacation in Euroland and over here they get bent over and big fat pipe shoved up them. I have to pay more for the game and get it after you. So when I jump in game my butt gets penetrated for a week because you and all your US buddies know the game by then and make me look stupid. I'll get call a Noob again, at least I hear there is good Noobie weapon in the grenade launcher.

Batman: Poor little Robin red butt. Never mind I'll be there to ram a rocket up it.

Robin: Just wait I'm gonna blow those stupid pointy ears clean off you head.

In short the dam game is in a warehouse somewhere still and I can't play it :(

Well here are my thoughts about CoD4 as a player and clan leader, as a player this game is F U N !

GOOD: I played most of yesterday (MP) and found myself immersed in the action. I too found it a bit overwellming with 32 people (due to weapons) on a few of the maps (smaller ones), can't think of their names, sorry I'm still a NooB! 24 players seems to be sweet spot with these maps. 18 maps at launch, can't ask for much more.

I can tell you one thing "ITS FUN AS HELL". It was great hearing my members compliment each other while playing and hearing them laugh (should warm the heart of any team leader), especially when they all decide to go after me to take me out. Garetajax stopped in and was dishing out some lead (welcome anytime Garet) in our server yesterday, he looked to be enjoying himself (hope he did anyway) as where others that played in our server. We had ours set on SnD and it filled 32 (in about 5 minutes) as soon as 4 of my team joined.

Having the 8800 768mb GTX and rendering the game at 1600x1200 it was truly a beautiful sight. The detail is incredible and the "perks" in the game are awesome. I LOVE the SAW ! Using it with "Deep Impact" is a blast! Each map has great "cover" and using it to move around the map is essential.

Having a dedicated box and being able to use it for a "RANKED" server is in my opinion "gamer friendly as well as clan friendly". Having a ded box and then NOT having to spend extra $$$ for us to have a dedicated ranked server is in my opinion VERY CLAN FRIENDLY ! Thank You IW and Activision.

I haven't even played the SP yet because I am having too much fun playing with other peeps, guess I'll save it for a rainy day :)

BAD: The problems with connecting to servers is a issue and I hope IW is working on it or has already started working on it , because that to me right now is the biggest and only problem I have seen so far.

With all that said I give it a 8 1/2 our of 10, would have been a 9 but because of the connection issues it loses a little.....

It's very clear to me IW listened to the community and used the input and created a game that I honestly wished would have been MoH:AB. Oh well, goodbye WW2 and hello Modern Day. Did I say I LOVE THE SAW !!! hehe

IW and Activision have a winner on their hands and sadly EA has a HUGE loser on theirs with Airborne. I just hope and pray IW supports this title and all things look like they will.

Anyways, everyone have fun playing and stop by and frag with us if you will !! :salute:

Medal of Honor what???? What was that crappy gamed called again? I forget....

After having my copy of COD4 sent to me by the good people at Buy.com, I fired it up and was blown away. I immediately went and rented a server, which was full within 2 hours of it being up. Luckily, I kept a private slot for myself so I could get in...... What a fun game. Looks like a fair amount of nights and weekends are going to be spent slaughtering people online with an M249 or MP5.

I've been playing MOHAA on and off pretty much since the demo came out but was so disappointed in Stillborne that, on the rebound, I downloaded the COD4 demo... and loved it. My main beef over the years with COD was the feeling that my guy was skating when running. Anyways, COD 4 changed/corrected that and now that the multiplayer is out, I'm freaking hooked!

I'm the founder and an admin of a diehard Mohaa clan but I rented a COD server anyways. It was full almost immediately and has been a blast. Now I just need to convince some of our members that a game not taking place in the 1930's and 40's isn't the devil.

Maybe alot of you might not know my team, we are all ages from 16 on up to 53, and NO I am not the 53 yr old lol, close but not the eldest and we play for good old FUN! Anyways we have competed together since 2004 in MoH:AA, CoD:UO, CoD2 and Battlefield 2142 entirely for FUN. Well that seems to have changed with this game, more and more members are screaming more scrims, more scrims and we did our best to make them happy last night. We scrimmed more maps last night than we have scrimmed in months, why ? , because its addicting and even though you are scrimming you are able to accuire experience points as long as server is stock and stays ranked. As a clan leader not having to spend extra dollars to have a ranked server is HUGE and a great benefit to the team! I will be honest we got our asses handed to us the first map because we did not play together as a team 0-4, that soon changed on the next map we went 3-4, we still lost but it was close. After that it was back and forth all night long, winning more than losing, the other team even asked us, what did you change LOL. Hearing the voices on vent excited and engrossed in the game really makes me happy because we have been looking for a game to play and compete with and we thoght MoH:AB was the game and we would have gone back to our roots. I have members that have been AWOL for months coming back to game and compete again, good times ahead for sure. :)

But let me say here and now THANK YOU EA for destroying MOH:AB, because you moved us directly towards CoD4 and we are not even looking back from this point on, using you're devious and untruthful ways with the community, making us all believe you were "the game" we wanted to play and then delivering CRAP, a HUGE ZERO. EA, you will save me many more dollars in the future because you have shown me and my team you're true colors "GREEN", you won't see any of it coming from the 50 or so of us from now on, you blew it two times in a row!

HELLO CoD4...the game is NOT perfect and it has a few things that need a lil fixing but as a whole, gameplay, excitement, fun are the things that seperate this title from the rest, its gonna be HUGE!

THANK YOU IW and Activision, you guys did one hell of a job with this game my only criticism is you're connection issues, I hope you fix them fast. I ask that you please support this title from you're end, you too have "skeletons" in the closet from games gone past with lackluster support, please support this one, do it right!

Now lets do this!
