For CoD4, Infinity Ward has created an all-new graphics engine by themselves.

The new game engine from IW includes many of new features and physics.Cinematic Quality Graphics and Sound – Featuring stunning next-generation graphics, players will be drawn into the cinematic intensity of COD4. Amazing special effects, including realistic depth of field, rim-lighting, character self-shadowing, texture streaming as well as physics-enabled effects as fully realized physics system which includes rag doll in combinations with death animations will enlist players into the most photo-realistic gaming experience. Are the environment in COD4 destructible?
Yes, environments in COD4 is highly destructible where you are able to shoot through some materials like doors and floors. You can also shoot tires off cars or blow it up with a few more shots. Obviously bullet penetration is based on the caliber of the weapon and the surface you're trying to shoot through though. For example, plywood, plaster walls, sheet metal, or any other thin or weak object can be shot through with the right caliber weapon.
COD4 lets me shoot through doors and floors, but can the AI shoot me back at me through walls?
The AI will not shoot you through any structures. (AI = Artificial Intelligence, the PC-bots)
So with these engine specs, what system specifications is required?
IW have stated that the console will run on constant 60 FPS and that they would remove stuff if it goes under 60 fps, the PC version will obviously run on higher fps and a statement from IW says that the game will run fine on lower end PC's. Though nothing is confirmed as of yet.
Who are the main villains in this game?
There are four of them actually; the "Four Horsemen" is what they call themselves. With Zakhaev in lead as an old school Russian ultra-nationalist and Al-Asad, a fellow Horseman based in the Middle East. The other two Horsemen serve as advisor's and bodyguards to their respective leaders.
Where does the game settings take place?
First of all, it’s a global conflict but the main settings are placed around the Middle East and Russia for most of the time. You will also visit other locations like the Ukraine in some flashback mission and US Navy ships off-shore, civilian structures and planes - but where we don’t know yet.
What is the game plot and storyline?
The game plot is to stop Zakhaev and his horsemen as they try to bring back mother Russia to a Stalinist mindset. COD4 have an episodic storyline, much like an episode of TV show "24" and takes place over about 30 days of this conflict. Read more about the levels ...HERE... (http://www.cod4gamers.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=478#478)
What are my player roles supposed to be in CoD4?
As a player, you will once again step into the roles of three different soldiers working for three different factions in the escalating conflict. As a member of the U.S. Marines elite Force Recon, you'll start in the blazing desert heat of the Middle East as you attempt to quell Al-Asad fomenting a coup. As a member of the British SAS you'll fight Zakhaev's people in places such as the Black Sea, working to find evidence of the crazed would-be dictator's plans in the hopes of drawing United States forces into the conflict.
How many and what maps are included in COD4?
So far we have confirmation about 6 maps and the only names we got are Overgrown, Vacant, Crash and The Bog.
More info will follow when we have it.
What kind of health system does COD4 use?
CoD4 has a fully-realized proprietary physics system. If you're shot, the screen begins to turn red and if it's bad, you hear your heart beating, which as in COD2, signals that it's time to find cover and drop back from the action until your health returns to normal.
What information does the HUD give me in COD4?
To aid your immersion, Infinity Ward have gone further by reducing the amount of HUD information than in other Call Of Duty games - they've got rid of the mini-map in single-player, and information on weapon choice pops up then fades away quickly. In addition you can remove most HUD information by enabling a new game mode, Hardcore mode - see Hardcore Mode below for more information.
What kind of weapons and equipment are to my disposal trough the game?
COD4 has a huge arsenal of weapons and equipment and we can’t mention all of them here. COD4 is featuring an available arsenal of more than 70 new and authentic weapons and gear from assault rifles with laser sites, claymore mines, .50 caliber sniper rifles, Javelin antitank missile and M-249 SAW machine guns. With accessories like night-vision goggles, thermal goggles, GPS jammers, IR sighting laser, weapon silencers and ghillie suits, for maximum concealment.
Will you be able to use iron sights in COD4?
Yes you will, absolutely!
Will you be able mêlée or bash attack someone?
All mêlée's are done with the combat knife now, when things get crazy and you're within hand to hand combat distance, break out a lethal knife stab / swipe / lunge to take down the enemy with your knife. And you'll be able to hit people with every type of grenade. Hit them in the face and it'll throw them off a bit. There's no more humiliating way to die then to be nearly dead (or in last stand) and be hit in the face and killed by a Flash bang. You have to be pretty much dead already for that to kill you.
Will I be able to sprint in COD4?
Yes, IW has introduced sprinting to both single and multiplayer. This is great for getting to cover quickly while under fire.
What kind of cover system does CoD4 use?
There is no special cover system present in the game other then crouch and prone as usual in CoD games. The PC version also have the leaning option. Players will not be able to "stick" to walls the way they can in Rainbow Six: Vegas or Gears of War.
ONLINE GAMING
Will I be able to use vehicles in COD4 multiplayer?
No, there will be no vehicles to use in COD4 - IW wants to concentrate on close combat with smaller and more intense maps, it's all infantry based. But you can however call in support from a wide range of vehicles.
How many players can play at the same time in online multiplayer?
For PC gamers the number is 32+ while console gamers only have from 1 to 16 online gamers at the same time.
Is it possible to do cross platform gaming like to let console gamers war against people playing on PC?
No, IW stated that such a feature wasn't suited for COD4 due to issues like the advantage PC gamers have with mouse/keyboard and the precision this gives.
Is it possible to do cross with Microsoft Live, like PC vs Xbox360?
No, there is no Live Cross Platform Functionality, IW has described this feature as inherently imbalanced for CoD4, good for tetris and poker!
Will there be kill cam in Multiplayer?
Yes, kill-cam will be in multiplayer just like Call of Duty 2.
Can you throw grenades back in Multiplayer?
Yes, you can throw grenades back in single and multiplayer.
Can you cook grenades?
Yes, you can cook grenades in both single player and multiplayer.
They mentioned a new game mode called "Hardcore Mode", what’s that?
IW has introduced a new realism mode for the hardcore players, which you can play along with any of the gametypes. So you can play all the gametypes either standard or Hardcore Mode. When playing Hardcore mode there is no HUD, no kill cam , friendly fire is enabled and weapons do more damage (realistic damage).
Is there any co-op features in COD4?
Cooperative game play (often abbreviated as co-op) primarily refers to a feature in video games that allows players to work together as teammates with the absence of player-controlled competitors. Co-op game play is usually built around the single player mode of a game, modified to allow additional players. COD4 does not have this game play.
What game modes are supported in CoD4?
Free-for-All - Every man for himself.
Team Deathmatch - Use teamwork to kill opposing players and reach score limit.
Team Objective - Domination and Search & Destroy. Capture flags in Domination, with respawning. Destroy and defend objectives in Search & Destroy, no respawning.
Team Tactical - Small team Deathmatch and Search & Destroy.
Capture the Flag - Try to steal the enemies flag and return it to your base.
Search and Destroy - Much like Counter-Strike, there are two teams: attackers and defenders. Attackers try to plant a bomb at one of two bomb sites, and defenders try to defend the bomb sites. If explosives are planted, defenders must defuse. Players only have one respawn per round. A round is over when all players on one team are killed, or when the bomb explodes or is defused.
Headquarters - A radio spawns somewhere on the map. Your goal is to capture the radio for your team. If Team A captures the radio, they must defend it from being destroyed by Team B. Team A will only have one respawn until the radio is destroyed or the max time limit for the radio is reached. Team B will respawn at set intervals. Team A earns points for every second the radio is held. To capture/destroy a radio, you must stand in the area of the radio. The more players, the faster you destroy it. New radio spawns when time limit is reached or the radio is destroyed.
Domination - There are flags at certain points around the map. All flags start neutral. Teams battle to hold the most flags. Game ends when the time limit is reached, or the score limit is reached. How many levels are there in COD4?
Call of Duty 4 contains 65 levels to play through, after that you can enter the Prestige Mode and have more fun.
What is the Prestige Mode?
I wish we could say, as of now however, thats a secret.
Will there be Ranking and how does it work?
Yes, there is a ranking system in multiplayer. As you play the game you gain XP = Experience Points, the more XP you gain the higher you will Rank up. The Ranking loosely follows military Marine ranks although there are more ranks in the game than there are actual Marine ranks, so there will be multiple levels to each rank. As you Rank up you will unlock more and more weapons and gear to customize your weapon load out. This includes completely new weapons, new sights, new scopes, new grips, new camo schemes, and more.
What’s all this about unlock able equipment and experience points?
CoD4 will use an experience based progression where you earn experience points (XP) for completing tasks and challenges. As you rank up you unlock new items, this is more than just new weapons. This includes Weapons, Perks, custom Camo schemes for your weapon and more.
IW speaks about a challenge system, how does that work?
Another twist to the typical shooter multiplayer is the addition of challenges. Essentially as you complete challenges, you'll get more experience points. While in a multiplayer game, you gain specific bonuses for completing any of the hundreds of challenges. When a challenge is achieved it unlocks things like the ability to call air strikes and such.
What classes does COD4 multiplayer support?
When you first start playing, you can choose from one of five pre-made classes with default weapon load outs and perks assigned to them as well as allows users to create five custom classes where the user can customize their weapon load out and three perks to assign to their soldier. The five default classes include Assault, Spec Ops, Light Machine Gunner, Demolitions, and Sniper class. But as you gain experience, you'll be able to customize your own classes, swapping in different weapons or even special abilities called perks. There will also be the option to Create-a-Class which you can unlock through ranking up that allows you to customize your primary weapon, secondary weapon, grenade type, up to three perks, and accessories for your primary and secondary weapons (i.e. scopes, sights, camo schemes).
I heard a lot about "Perks" in multiplayer, what’s that all about?
Perks are used to customize your character online to better fit your personal style of combat. The perks are broken up into three categories. This helps balance out the Perks a lot. You're limited to three perks total, so you have to choose wisely on what's going to fit your play style the best. There are a vast number of perks available, creating a unique MP experience every match with the large amount of difference combinations available.
What are the confirmed perks?
There is a pretty long list of perks and to see all of them scroll down to the Complete List
Can Perks or other options be modified or disabled?
Yes, server admins and players will have a large amount of config options to disable / enable as they see fit on their servers. Perks can be disabled and plenty of gameplay options can be modified. Server Admins and players will have a healthy config file to assist them.

Yes indeed, COD4 will support both processors.
Will there be Mod Tools/Support?
Yes, IW do plan on releasing Mod tools and Mod support for COD4, there may not be mod tools out of box however, they are working to ensure that they have mod tools and support as soon after launch as possible. They have confirmed built-in mod support, something called ModWarfare and a über-config file.
Will There Be HTTP Redirect?
Yes, COD4 will utilize HTTP redirect.

What is the match making like in Multiplayer?
IW have introduced a Party System into COD4. You'll now be able to party up with friends and move from lobby to lobby easily as well as join in progress. Once you are in a party, you can stay in the same lobby with your party after each match or jump to a new lobby and still keep your party in tact.
Will I be able to set up custom private matches?
Yes, you always have the option to start a Private Match and invite friends. In Private Match you can also fully customize the game rules and options which allow you to:
Set Time / Score / Other Limits

Disable / Enable Perks
Set to Headshots OnlyPlus a load of other options. Essentially setting up the game any way you want to play it in Private Matches.
SONY PLAYSTATION 3 SPECIAL
Is there Clan Support in Multiplayer?
Yes, in the sense that you can add in-game Clan tags to your username. You can add a Clan tag in game, and then party up with your Clan members to go from match to match as a team.
MICROSOFT XBOX 360 SPECIAL
Is there Clan Support in Multiplayer?
Yes, in the sense that you can add in-game Clan tags to your gamertag, making it so you don't have to buy a new gamertag every time you change clans. You can add a Clan tag in game, and then party up with your Clan members to go from match to match as a team.
What this essentially means is that you will be able to add a prefix to your gamertag for free instead of paying Microsoft 800 points to completely change your gamertag. However, the new prefix will only appear in Call Of Duty 4 and its lobbies and will not appear in any other game.
******
Perks
The general idea behind Perks is that these things aren't meant to overpower, their balanced to death just like we balance all the different weapons. So that skill is still the biggest deciding factor in a game.
What these do is change the way you fight on the battlefield. Every time you enter an MP match you're never going to know what you'll come up against thanks to the massive amount of combinations and custom load outs available through custom classes.
Perks are used to customize your character online to better fit your personal style of combat. Now you can't just hit the ground with every awesome perk available, and become some sort of unrealistic super soldier. That's not what this is about.
The perks are broken up into three categories. This helps balance out the Perks a lot. You're limited to three perks total, so you have to choose wisely on what's going to fit your play style the best.
Perks are ability enhancements and battlefield upgrades which can also be unlocked through repeated play. There are three categories of perks which can be equipped to a given avatar. You'll earn bonuses such as; a GPS device, increased statistics (health, damage, etc.) and a few other random ones.
Dead Silence, for example, allows you to move without the enemy being able to detect you. Eavesdrop lets you hear the opposing team's voice chat. Last Stand lets you enact swift revenge on your killers by allowing you to draw your sidearm and empty a clip before you die.
New perks, items, extras come with new ranks. So during game play, you'll hear/see when you rank up, but not what you unlocked. You'll see that once the round is over, before entering the score screen.
You'll have a nice interface that shows you your new rank, your current XP, how much to the next rank, and at the bottom everything you unlocked during that match.
To use those items, when you're in the lobby, go to create-a-class and swap out whatever gear/perks you want to change. Keep in mind, this shouldn't be confused with the UAV recon (radar), air strikes, or helicopter support that can be unlocked DURING game play by doing well. These are unlocked immediately and activated via d-pad (for consoles) or by a specific key (on PC) during game play.

Another twist to the typical shooter multiplayer is the addition of challenges, which are broken up into many different categories based on the type of challenge they are.
This could be likened to Xbox Live Achievements, except specific to Call of Duty 4, and with immediate rewards. But essentially as you complete challenges for doing amazing things in multiplayer (i.e. Blind fire: Get a kill while flashed), then you'll get more experience points. While in a multiplayer game, you gain specific bonuses for completing any of the hundreds of challenges. Kill three opponents without dying and you'll gain access to your radar. Earn a five kill streak and you can call in an air strike (with all carpet bomb kills added to your total). Keep up that spree and earn the right to call in a support chopper to lay suppressive fire on your opponents.List of Achievements

Classes & Create-a-Class
A class in CoD4 refers to your avatar's weapons load out (primary, sidearm and special/grenade), various weapon attachments, the camo pattern you'll wear and the 'perks' you come equipped with (more on those in a moment). Different weapons, attachments, camo patterns and other items can all be unlocked through online play.
When you first start playing, you can choose from one of five pre-made classes, such as Assault, Sniper, Special Ops, and Heavy. But as you gain experience, you'll be able to customize your own classes, swapping in different weapons or even special abilities called perks. Each character gets three perk slots:
allows you access to special items like C4 or a silencer;
has a selection of passive abilities like extra health or faster reloading;
this set seemed a little more specialized, like making less sound (ideal if you like playing stealthy).Infinity Ward is planning to have a great deal of perks, giving players a ton of options to play with. Additionally, the Kill Cam will return, giving you a look at the player who killed you with the added bonus of seeing what kind of perks they're using.
You can have several custom classes saved on hand at any given time. How to do this is to create a class per game type. So you may have a Capture the Flag class designed towards speed and getting out alive. Like e.g. the Flag Runner. IW talks about a nice light Submachine gun, with perks focused on getting you in and out with the flag quickly, opposed to putting down targets. You can also have one set up for Team Deathmatch, which is the exact opposite.
The Submachine gun is gone and you are going in with an assault rifle with three perks focused on brute force and making a mark in a fire fight. You're limited to three perks total, so you have to choose wisely on what's going to fit your play style the best.

Edit: From me... It appears that they really DID listen. The more I learn about this puppy, the more it looks like the REAL DEAL.
Update: Call of Duty 4 will ship with SIXTEEN (16) Multiplayer Maps! CoD4 is looking more attractive. :)

Each character gets three perk slots:
allows you access to special items like C4 or a silencer;
has a selection of passive abilities like extra health or faster reloading;
this set seemed a little more specialized, like making less sound (ideal if you like playing stealthy).Infinity Ward is planning to have a great deal of perks, giving players a ton of options to play with.
